The pace of change is a danger to our incoming leaders
Edited on Mon Dec-01-08 08:46 PM by Cyrano
The only constant of which we can be absolutely certain is the increasing speed of change. It took thousands of years for humans to learn to fly, about another 35 years to develop jet power, and about 20 more to get into orbit and reach the moon.

While many welcome change, far too many human beings fear and despise it. Who are they? You don’t need to look much further than religious zealots who fight every step of scientific progress, or those whose greed will be regulated, or bigots who fear that change will bring about the ascendancy of the “Other.”

Obama, and many he has already appointed, represent change. It's change that those who hold ancient superstitions don't want to see happen. It’s change that the greedy don’t want to see happen. It’s change that those who have held power for far too long don’t want to see happen. But it is change that is in the process of happening.

Those of whom I'm speaking will do virtually anything to slow change, obstruct it, and stop it dead in its tracks. And if I need to be more specific, think of Jack, Martin, and Bobby.

That cannot be allowed to happen again. The barbarians cannot be allowed to alter the sane flow of progress this time around. Those who have brought us to the brink of disaster cannot be allowed to, once again, bring change to a halt and pervert history.

There is little that we as individuals can do. We can only hope that those entrusted with the safety of those who are about to bring about vast changes are eternally vigilant.

1. Hope?
'We can only hope' is right. Just look at where we are..... the same people who got us into this mess are gonna get us out? I don't think so. Obama has been canned already. He was canned from the day he entered the race. Canned tuna.

The next year is gonna be the worst, from all indications. And Obama is gonna get blamed for it and then all our hope will be canned up and sent to some hidden tribe deep in the Amazon. A tribe who've survived without any canned food. Hope they feast well.

2. We are fucked, but at least they have a clue.
The last 8 years is what you get when they have no clue.

I must disagree that this change is in any danger. It is because of a little something I think they call "critical mass"

Besides the number of those who voted for mccain because of their fears, known & unknown,
the actual numbers of people who believe in their deepest hearts that this could be good ...is more than we can imagine.
The numbers of people in this country and around the world who are loking upward to what our potential COULD be as a humanity of pesce and hope and invention is far greater than those who still carry the darkness.

This kind of change MUST happen and is necessary because of all the crud that's happened SINCE Nov 4th, and UNTIL Jan 20th.
This change is a wave of consciousness sweeping through us all like a breath of fresh air after years in a dungeon. We may have thought it was not possible. And it is not just the work of ONE man...it is a collective awakening to our reality of how to make this world work better.

I recall a scene from the movie "Contact" where they are interviewing the people who want to go on the mission. They ask Jodie Foster what question would she ask an advanced society...she replies "how did you do it...? How did you evolve past this infancy without killing eachother or destroying your world...?"

WE ARE at that critical point. The next 5 years will be our chance to evolve past our infancy of intelligence to a better humanity. And I would like to believe that THIS CHANGE IS MANDATE.

rock on!

4. I agree.
I dread the day, and hope it never arrives.
