That's probably as much energy as they have to give right now.

8. Well, the fact is that Sarah did what she was supposed to do
The religious right was always looking sideways at McCain so he did need someone that would energize the base - the base being the religious nutjobs that make up the 28% (more or less) who still think Bush is doing a good job and is a good Christian. Did McCain want her? No way in hell. I think he was pretty much threatened with the loss of support of the base if he didn't pick her (meaning the religious right higher-ups chose her for him) - or someone like her (meaning McCain was told the credentials he needed for a veep for continued support, and he chose her).

Aside: Either situation is telling, and also it tells something about their attitude about women in that they actually expected Hillary voters - upset that she didn't win the nomination - to just jump over to McCain because there was now another woman they could vote for - as if all that mattered to women was the fact that Hillary and Palin had the same kind of sex organs. (This attitude is also seen when the GOP is perplexed when they run one of their few Black candidates and don't understand why Blacks don't vote for him or her. Women and minorities ain't smart enough to care about issues... they just want to see more of their kind represented).

But she did energize the base twice - after her speech at the RNC and after her performance in the debate against Biden where she did better than what anyone predicted. But what they don't understand is that she also rallied our base as well as the independent vote for us.

11. I thought it interesting that no one mentioned that the word "base"
also means lacking of higher qualities of mind and/or spirit, i.e. a villein. Every time I heard that phrase, "She's energizing the base," I thought to myself - got that right!
