A Star Has Dimmed/The Light's Gone Out in Georgia

Nearly a month after she and John McCain were soundly defeated in the presidential election, Gov. Sarah Palin took to the campaign trail, this time to help Republicans hold on to a potentially significant Senate seat.

The appearance by the Alaska Governor at a rally for Georgia Sen. Saxby Chambliss Monday was a highly anticipated affair -- not least because the Senate race could provide Democrats with a filibuster-proof majority in that legislative body.

But Palin's role as campaign closer said as much about her political fortunes as it did the national party. Still a veritable star in the GOP ranks, her draw seemed somewhat limited on the stump. While MSNBC carried the roughly 15-minute speech in full, CNN cut out only a few minutes in and FOX News didn't even go to the affair.

1. I knew my Pagan Witch Ritual would work!
Did you see the smoke last night???? ring of She's so Over??? WOO HOO!

I had to repost this- some brilliant commenter on Huff Po rewrote this song for her:

" The Devil went down to Georgia
She was looking for some votes to steal
She had lost her mind, and was way behind
So she went to make a deal
' I want to be the President
But according to the national poll
I can't get there
So if you don't care
I'll trade to you my soul ' "

16. Never mind Sarkozy
There are probably thousands of Palin voodoo dolls out there, lovingly constructed by American witches. Most are probably gagged and have been thrown in the freezer to symbolize the return to Alaska.

I confess to spending just a few minutes lovingly constructing an arctic tundra to surround her, also, there to progress her forward to the most pro-america part of the country and just gettin' in and helpin' her, also, to return to her maverick calling, and there again, also there to make sure she's able to keep those american values like rape kits bein' charged-- there, reinin' in big spendin' and killin' baby wolves there, also, which is again progressing this great country of ours where, to, if god opens a window ya' can just push that darn thing wide open and say here she is, god, Dominionist Barbie.

Brrr! I think I hear the phone ringin'. You betcha! Winky wink!

edited cuz palinese is hard on a girl.

Uh, Lady. First look in the mirror. Then look at the chickenhawk sack of shit standing next to you.

You are in negative campaigning central, U.S.A.

4. Only MSNBC still recognizes her nascent greatness
But MSNBC still has a lot of ground to make up if they're going to catch Fox for pandering to the bigots and repressives.

7. You can't tell me it doesn't sound stupid and fake on her.
If she was from Iowa or Missouri, fine. But she's from the frozen fucking north.

13. Yes...you are absolutely right..
However, it isn't the accent, but the ignorance of the speaker that deserves the derision.

14. Right, focus on WHAT she says, not how she says it, because it insults a HUGE swath...
of folks.

We Western New Yorkers may be a bit nasal and are big into "dese, dems, and dose", but no way do we sound like her! Yikes! :scared:

17. The accent, yes. The strident, nasal delivery, NO.
I grew up in Minnesota, I know.

Yes, people do talk with that funny little lilt at the end of words and sentences, they do use hick verbal tics like "sure," and "you betcha." They have flat, pinched "A" vowels and they frequently half-swallow broad "O" and "oo" sounds.

But they don't talk at seventy-five decibels, and they don't invariably talk through their noses. Nor is verbal diarrhea common. In fact, upper midwesterners tend to be a bit on the laconic side.

Palin's delivery is truly an aberrant, discordant, distressing noise.

And that is not an insult to American upper midwesterners or midwestern Canadians.

You betcha.

argumentatively,
Bright

I mean, look at that picture, the alignment is all out of whack. Back before November 4,they would have made sure to adjust the camera angle just right and used that light to give that gal a halo!
