Poll question: Do you intentionally push strangers, or push people you know into strangers?
This poll is about the physical act of pushing, as opposed to the verbal act of pushing.

1. Of course not. No civilized person intentionally pushes someone.

11. We are not all equally civilized
and people jostle each other all the time, especially in crowded situations. When you have a line, or a clump of people I-I-I-I-I-I-I -> that is moving in one direction, or expecting to move in that direction what starts as a small bump in the back gets passed on and amplified as it moves forward so that the person at the front of the line will face a lot of pressure if they try, or are forced, to stop.

14. The poll indicated 'intention'.
Being a crowd and unable to control your movements is not the same thing. Intention is the difference here.

21. the people at the back, though, ARE pushing intentionally
or jostling, trying to move forward and bumping the person ahead of them.

I-I-I-I\
I-I\ I\
I-I-I-I-I-I ->
I-I-I-I-I-I ->
I-I-I-I-I ->
I-I-I/
I/

Why is why the poll question doesn't fit the hidden premise that is trying to be argued here by the OP.

40. But that's not what he asked.
I tend to avoid crowds just for that reason, but I don't intentionally push someone.

38. It's a paraphrase of the old standard, "You always hurt the one you love"
You always hurt the one you love
The one you shouldn't hurt at all
You always take the sweetest rose
And crush it till the petals fall

etc.

So I suppose it should be, "The ones you shouldn't push at all." :)

Now, bring on the Mills Brothers!

If you're going to push somebody, you should make it worthwhile.

I prefer solo pushing...less organization involved.

And would that person by sheer force perhaps push the person in front of them?

26. Not push, but I'll certainly bump people on purpose
I occasionally get frustrated with people who make no effort to share the sidewalk (IMO, when people need to pass in confined space each one should make half the necessary adjustment), so sometimes when an approaching person makes no move to yield then I don't either. }(

But I typically don't reach out and shove people - unless it's to push them out of traffic or something... O8)

27. 8 people on this site have so far (granted, anonymously) admitted
to pushing people. I don't know whether I am surprised it is ONLY 8 or am I surprised that 8 is too many :shrug:

I can't help but wonder about them. The who and why of it all.

39. I said NO, but actually once at a Blue Man Group production
in Chicago, the SOB next to me kept pushing my leg with his so much that I was almost in my BIL's lap on the other side of me. I did begin some serious (SERIES!) pushback at that point. Granted the seating in that theater is cramped, but we were all cramped. He and his date (wife?) did not appear to be enjoying the show at all and left as soon as they could manage it.

But in a crowd, standing or walking, never intentionally.

If confronted, I act as if I were pushed by somebody else.
