There’s only a week to go before the Dec. 2 runoff election in Georgia that could send Jim Martin, a champion of workers, to the U.S. Senate and send incumbent Sen. Saxby Chambliss packing. You can still take part by helping Martin raise the funds he needs to get out the message and get out every vote in this critical election.

This election will absolutely make a difference in the ability of Congress to enact a real pro-worker agenda. We can help Martin get to the Senate and cast votes in favor of creating new jobs, expanding affordable, high-quality health care coverage and ensuring the freedom to form unions—or we can watch Chambliss go back to Washington and continue his efforts to block the change working families desperately need.

AFL-CIO President John Sweeney met with Martin earlier this month and came away impressed with his commitment to policies that help working families. Says Sweeney:

Over the years, I’ve gotten to meet a lot of politicians, and I’m pretty good at figuring out who is truly passionate about helping America’s workers and rebuilding our middle class and who is just paying lip service to those ideals.

Let me tell you, Jim Martin is committed to helping America’s workers.

I couldn’t have been more impressed with Jim, and to help elect him to the U.S. Senate, we’ve moved massive resources into Georgia for this election sprint that ends Dec. 2. Jim could use your financial support as well.

With only a week to go and union volunteers working tirelessly to mobilize active and retired union members and their families around the state, we have a chance to make a real difference by sending Martin to the Senate. You can help here

Martin needs a 10% or more margin of victory to beat the 100% non-transparent, corpo/fascist voting machines in Georgia. It CAN be done, with EXTRA effort on turnout. His campaign may also need money for a lawsuit if they steal it from him. So far NO ONE among the Democratic Party leadership or candidates has directly challenged Diebold (now called "Premier") or ES&S 'TRADE SECRET' voting systems. Even the blatant election theft in FL-13 in 2006--and, of course, the first electronic theft (that we know of) in Georgia itself, in 2002 (Cleland vs Chambliss for Senate)--were covered up--ignored, blackholed, deepsixed, 'tabled'--by our benighted leaders. The Democratic Congress (of the 10% approval rating) is especially culpable in this regard, as are corrupt election officials and state legislators of both parties. Martin may have to buck the entire national political establishment to expose a Diebold election theft. He needs EXTRA money and EXTRA effort to win, and THEN some, to challenge a wrongful result. I am donating today. I hope many DUers do the same. Georgia was the first testing ground for all-electronic election fraud. Chambliss was the first beneficiary of a system that ultimately benefited Bush/Cheney and the war profiteers.

Keep this in mind: If this runoff is close (and pre-election polls seem to indicate that it is), there is no way to recount the votes in Georgia (and, indeed, in half the voting systems in the country). Total non-transparency. No audit, no recount possible. Welcome to Amurika, land of the free, home of the brave.
