1. We're buying a couple of nubian goats at 11 a.m. Does that count?

3. Is this for a holiday gift or a dowry?
Are they having a doorbusters special, or does door busting happen after you take them home?

If so, count it.

21. Shrewd move. Good on you.
Get some chickens, too, and expand the garden.

As far as food price and supply go, 2009 is going to make 2008 look like the good old days -- no matter which way the oil prices get manipulated.

40. My mom had one for about 20 years, Honeysickle.
You probably already know this, but keep her well secured if you value the paint on your car, they just love to climb Mount Four Wheels.

I keep getting a visual of a pride of lions bringing down a kill and then fighting over the carcass as they shred it.

12. Apartment living, which means small and portable
I had to get it at Sears...the only folks that had the machine at my price point

And yes it is a pain... in that sense... the last one lasted ten years.

When I FINALLY replace the large oven... will look at Aztec and other local places... for the moment for the two of us we use a tabletop oven.

13. Can you please clarify?
Are you a consumerist sheeple because you refuse to wash your clothes in a nearby stream, or is it because you were unwilling to wait until the washer and dryer were being sold at full price to buy it?

8. I reserve the right to go on a beer run to my neighborhood Saddam's Market if needed
Edited on Fri Nov-28-08 10:27 AM by slackmaster
(The name of market has been changed to protect everyone's identity.)

There will be a very low tide at about 3:45 PM. If I feel up to going out anywhere other than the homes of my neignbors, I'll head down to the Silver Strand State Beach for that.

If I do buy anything significant today, it will be via the Internet or phone.

31. Me too - I lied.
I voted "Hell No" but I'm going to see my Mom today (at her alz. assisted living) and I have to pick up some strawberry preserves for her. It is her #1 joy in life these days. Mom trumps Black Friday Boycott.

I might add, though, that I'll buy it from my local grocer.

17. No, but I got to see the calm before the riots
I had to return movies to a RedBox kiosk and figured 3am would be a good time to do it. I couldn't park any closer than the far edge of our Walmart superstore and everyone was leaving their cars at a trot. I went inside to buy a canned coffee drink and see what was going on. They had sale sections cordoned off with tape, the whole place was a maze. Behind the tape were throngs, shoulder to shoulder, butts to fronts, like along a parade route. In the aisles were pensive workers fidgeting and watching the clock. It was quiet, but the air bristled with energy. Leaving, I had pick of the registers because the checkout was stone empty.

From a safe distance, shopping lust is a fascinating spectacle.

18. No, but I did have the crazy urge to go to the mall...
...just to walk through, not really needing or wanting to buy anything. Reminiscence of years past, when I did hit the post-Thanksgiving sales at 6 in the morning. It was fun at the time, but what deterred me today was that I just didn't want to fight the traffic. I'll enjoy the mall decorations sometime in the next couple of weeks, preferably early in the day when it's not so crowded. My actual shopping, I will do online.

20. Today is the day we celebrate Buy Nothing Day
Started by social activists to get people to examine the issue of over-consumption.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buy_Nothing_Day

Media tends to not report on this, although it's been going on since the early 90's. Wonder why ;)

41. Out of breath! Whew!)
I just got back! I think I may have stampeded and stomped to death the last remaining veteran of WWII? He was standing in the wrong place when the door was opened. It was like an Arrowsmith concert. People were not to be deterred from saving a couple of dollars on some Chinese junk. The clothes department was especially messy. Shit was strewn all over the floor.

43. Just for one item.

Sears had a good price on a Toshiba 1080p TV. The sale was from 7am till Noon. Got there at around 9:30. As expected they were sold out. Went across the street to HH Gregg. They had the same TV on sale for $80 less than the Sears price but they also had none in stock. Big difference is Greeg will take rain checks and their sale price is good till tomorrow night. I came home to think about it and to see if I can find any better deals. But I'll probably go back up tomorrow and put one on order. I hope I don't have to wait too long for it to arrive.

47. Oh hell no
No special super-duper secret sale is worth that. I spent way too many Black Fridays on the other side of the register; witnessing consumer lust is not pretty.

Okay, I might go buy some bananas at our local grocery store later, if I absolutely have to. But more likely it'll wait till tomorrow morning.
