Bush: `I'm the decision-maker' on Iraq

By JENNIFER LOVEN, Associated Press Writer 6 minutes ago

WASHINGTON -
President Bush, on a collision course with Congress over
Iraq, said Friday "I'm the decision-maker" about sending more troops to the war. He challenged skeptical lawmakers not to prematurely condemn his plan.

"I've picked the plan that I think is most likely to succeed," Bush said in an Oval Office meeting with senior military advisers.

The president had strong words for lawmakers on both sides of the aisle who are lining up to support resolutions opposing his decision to send 21,500 troops to Iraq. He challenged them to put up their own ideas. "Some are condeming a plan before it's even had a chance to work," he said.

Bush said lawmakers agree that failure in Iraq would be a disaster and that he chose a strategy that he and his advisers thought would help turn the tide in Iraq.

The president met with Army Lt. Gen. David Petraeus, newly confirmed by the Senate to command U.S. troops in Iraq.

"My instruction to him was `Get over to the zone as quickly as possible, and implement a plan that will achieve our goals,'" Bush said.

"You're going into an important battle in the war on terror," he told Petraeus.

10. Oh so now he's the decisioner instead of the decider.
It's hard to imagine how a so called president hates Murika as much as he does.

I mean seriously, he's a nut.

11. is he drunk in this picture?
It's easy to look awful in a casual photo, especially with a helicopter whipping the air around you or your tie pulled to the side from working, but he really doesn't look good there. Part of me wants to laugh at him, but most of me wants to pray.

12. He can call himself whatever he wants, the bottom line is:
He is deluded, unbalanced, and a threat to the whole world. Someone in Congress please do something to commit this raging maniac before he wipes out everyone.

15. Dubya says Pelosi "I told him this time it had to work"
or something quite similar.

What he is telling Petreus is come back with your shield or on it. And when you tell a commander that, you get all-in battles like Stalingrad,
Gallipoli, Gettysburg, and other glorious victories.

The problem with those glorious victories is that generally, they went to the commander who was not told to go all out.
We are entering the Kamakazi period of the war with the surge, and we haven't even attacked Iran yet.

Impeachment is imperative! Today if possible!

23. Let's write this as it should be written
Presumptive President Bush, on a collision course with Congress over Iraq, said Friday "I'm the decision-maker" about sending more troops to the war. He challenged skeptical lawmakers not to prematurely condemn his buildup.

A US Senator, speaking on condition of anonymity, said "How can you make a premature judgment about the same-old same-old that hasn't worked yet?"

"I've picked the plan that I think is most likely to succeed," Bush said in an Oval Office meeting with senior military advisers and other yes-men.

The president had strong words for lawmakers on both sides of the aisle who are lining up to support resolutions opposing his decision to send 21,500 troops to Iraq. He challenged them to put up their own ideas. "Some are condeming a plan before it's even had a chance to work," he said.

Said another member of the Senate, "This so-called plan hasn't worked for four years and there's no reason to suppose it will now."

White House political adviser Karl Rove, examining the latest poll numbers showing Bush's popularity declining the impeachment movement gaining ground, told Petraeus, "Failure is not an option."

During a photo opportunity, Bush was asked about stepped-up activities in Iraq against Iranian activities thought to be fueling the violence.

Bush defended the policy, but said it is no indication that the United States intends to expand the confrontation beyond Iraq's borders.

"That's a presumption that's simply not accurate," Bush said.

But added: "Our policy is going to be to protect our troops. It makes sense."

Bush also said he was confident that the dispute over Iran's nuclear program could be resolved diplomatically.

"It's entirely up to the Iranians, just as a diplomatic solution was entirely up to Saddam Hussein before we invaded Iraq." said the presumptive president. "My door is always open."
