1. Oh really? We might want to wait for Congress to chime in on that
Edited on Fri Nov-21-08 03:36 PM by Book Lover
on edit: My point is that this is being treated as a fait accompli, as if there were no confirmation process at all. Yes, I know she will likely be easily confirmed. But the story in the MSM reads as if all Obama has to do is say, "You are the SOS," and it just happens as soon as she accepts. Sorry to be unclear!

3. She can accept the nomination -- she has to do that first

4. Congress will confirm her easily. I bet she won't even have 5 votes against her in the Senate.

7. In what possible scenario...
...would she fail a confirmation vote for State? Who in their right mind would want to be the people who very publicly stop Obama from appointing Hillary under current conditions? Very few people in Congress need the enemies list and massive hit to their approval numbers that would create. Nobody in their right mind is going to take a serious shot at obstructing a pick like that. If she really is accepting it then it's a done deal.

8. If they give "Uncle Ted" a standing ovation, I think they will confirm Hillary

12. Somehow I don't think Obama had a Plan B for SoS
One thing the party doesn't need to deal with is another PUMA outburst.

16. There is no such thing as a PUMA or a PUMA outburst
I love Hillary.

I voted for her in the primary.

If she didn't get SoS I wasn't going to have a hissy fit. Or even post a complaint about it on DU, as I confidantly voted for OB to become POTUS and have full faith in his decision making for his cabinet.

Get over it. And stop trying to belittle, berate and bait. It's so old and childish.

17. Oh, come on...
My post wasn't even about you. Though your heart was broken, you stuck with the Democrats. There's a lot of Hillary supporters who jumped ship and supported McCain instead. Since you're not one of them, chill.

21. Wrong...my heart was not broken...my first choice of a DEMOCRAT wasn't
Edited on Fri Nov-21-08 04:34 PM by rvablue
the first choice of a majority of Democrats.....so I threw my support behind the man who is going to implement the kind of government and policies that I want to see....DEMOCRATIC ones.

I will not chill until people can come to the realization that the PUMA movement was nothing but a bunch of Republican disruptor trolls who were trying to implement a strategy to disrupt our party unity....a strategy that failed miserably.

Continuing to use the PUMA meme only continues that disruption.

18. What does Clinton as SOS have to do with a bunch of Republicans?

20. It's not about the Republicans...
I think one of the reasons Obama chose Clinton as SoS was to help keep the party unified. I'm sure she'll do a fine job as SoS. Helluva lot better than Condi, in any case.

22. For your information, not everyone of her supporters wanted her to take the job.
She's far more independent in the senate and has her own power base. But, it's her choice.

Not thrilled with this pick. If Obama thinks she's right for the job though, I'll wait and see how it works out.

14. New CNN Headline: Hillary Clinton is in talks with the Obama transition team, and
and “reports beyond that are premature,” a Clinton aide says.

I wish all this drama would stop. Why is this the only post with drama behind it? There have been leaks right and left, but no drama behind the others.

On a separate note, just before that headline came up, they had a breaking headline that Richardson is on track for the Commerce Secretary

15. I wished too, but I was told earlier there was no drama.
It is absolutely ridiculous, and, even if I do not want her there, please, nominate her so that we dont have to hear about it again.
