Four who tried citizen's arrest of Karl Rove on trial today. Karl still given credibility by media.
Rove still writes for WSJ and Newsweek, and he is beloved on Fox News. The four activists are being tried for trespassing in their attempt to arrest him in Iowa.

Jury begins deliberations in Rove arrest trial

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A jury is expected to begin deliberations on Friday in the case of 4 people who attempted to arrest former White House adviser Karl Rove during a fundraising appearance earlier this year in Iowa.

Facing charges of trespassing are retired Methodist minister Chet Guinn, two members of the social welfare group Des Moines Catholic Worker Community, Edward Bloomer and Mona Shaw, and former group member Kirk Brown.

..."In the citizens arrest complaint, the defendants accused Rove of felony murder, election fraud, conspiracy to commit offense or defraud the United States leading to the war in Iraq, as well as treason, sedition and subversive activities.

This week Talking Points Memo pointed out that new info shows he helped compile the list of US Attorney firings.

New Senate Report On US Attorney Firings Finds Rove Helped Compile List

The Justice Department already found, in its report on the U.S. Attorney firings, that the White House engineered the firings, and that inappropriate political concerns had played in to several of the dismissals.

Still, the Senate Judiciary Committee released a report on the episode today that goes a little further. Its "Majority" (that is, Democratic) section concludes:

"The evidence...shows that the list for firings was compiled with participation from the highest political ranks in the White House, including former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove.

The evidence shows that senior officials were focused on the political impact of Federal prosecutions and whether Federal prosecutors were doing enough to bring partisan voter fraud and corruption cases. It is now apparent that the reasons given for these firings, including those reasons provided in sworn testimony by the Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General, were contrived as part of a cover-up."

Meanwhile Karl Rove had an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal yesterday, giving Obama advice on how to govern.

Now Obama Has to Govern

Presidential transitions can be problematic. The candidate is utterly exhausted. Supporters have unattainable expectations and unrealistic personal hopes. The ease of making campaign pledges has given way to the obstinate process of legislating them. And Barack Obama is the first president-elect since Richard Nixon without executive experience. What are some of his transition challenges so far?

One of Mr. Obama's first decisions was to make Rahm Emanuel his chief of staff. This smart, aggressive Chicago pol may turn out to be a wise pick. But first he must decide what his role is. Will he be the opinionated enforcer who ran the Clinton White House political office? Or will Mr. Emanuel fashion himself into a more traditional chief of staff?

The phrase former chiefs, Republican and Democrat, seem to prize is "honest broker." President Ronald Reagan's chief, James A. Baker III, once cautioned, "Don't use the process to impose your policy views." Effective chiefs of staff don't short circuit the decision-making process. Instead, they strive to impartially present the views of others and become a trusted channel of communication to the president for leaders on both sides of the aisle.

Karl Rove, who is believed to have been deeply involved the firings of the US Attorneys, who has been held in contempt by a Congressional committee....is also still writing for Newsweek.

Here is his article from November 19.

A Way Out of the Wilderness

In the coming year, we will be defined more by what we oppose than what we are for; the president-elect and the Democrats in Congress will control the agenda. We must pick fights carefully and center them around principle. The goal is to have the sharp differences that emerge make the GOP look like the more reasonable, hopeful and inviting party—which is easier said than done. A road map:

1. Avoid mindless opposition. We should support President Obama when he is right (Afghanistan), persuade him when his mind appears open (trade) and oppose him when he is wrong (taxes). It is the Republican Party's job to hold him accountable on the merits only.

Isn't it amazing? He is saying not to show mindless opposition....after all these years of his tactics of ridicule and scapegoating.

Despite all the suspicion of his involvement in the case of Alabama Governor Don Siegelman, despite the fact that he has been messing around in Alabama politics for years...he is still being given credibility by the Wall Street Journal, Fox News, and Newsweek.

Rove deeply involved in Alabama politics since 1994

All that changed in 1994. Rove brought to Alabama a formula, honed in Texas, for winning judicial races. It involved demonizing Democrats as pawns of the plaintiffs' bar and stoking populist resentment with tales of outrageous verdicts. At Rove's behest, Hooper and his fellow Republican candidates focused relentlessly on a single case involving an Alabama doctor from the richest part of the state who had sued BMW after discovering that, prior to delivery, his new car had been damaged by acid rain and repainted, diminishing its value. After a trial revealed this practice to be widespread, a jury slapped the automaker with $4 million in punitive damages. "It was the poster-child case of outrageous verdicts," says Bill Smith, a political consultant who got his start working for Rove on these and other Alabama races. "Karl figured out the vocabulary on the BMW case and others like it that point out not just liberal behavior but outrageous decisions that make you mad as hell.

Not only are the media listed above giving him credibility, Mary Matalin's own publishing company is printing his memoirs alongside those of Jerome Corsi. The name of Mary's publishing company is Threshold.

NEW YORK (AP) — GOP strategist Karl Rove has agreed to write about his years as an adviser to President Bush in a deal worth over $1.5 million with former colleague Mary Matalin's conservative imprint at Simon & Schuster, officials said Friday.
Rove, the architect of Bush's 2000 and 2004 presidential campaigns and one of the most influential political advisers of his time, signed the deal with Threshold Editions, the imprint's publisher and executive vice president Louise Burke said.

"All of us at Threshold are thrilled to publish the book from the man who had the president's ear for two terms," Burke said.

Rove's agent, attorney Robert Barnett, said Threshold was chosen over eight other bidding publishers. Threshold didn't say how much Rove would be paid, but the bidding reached at least $1.5 million, two publishing officials familiar with the bidding told The Associated Press. The official spoke on condition of anonymity, a standard industry practice.

Those four activists are being tried, Karl Rove is not. He is still free to spout his nonsense. My best to them for their conscientious activities.

1. It gets worse - Disgraced indicted former congressman Bugman Delay
regularly appears on the daily tweety show where he jokes around with tweety and is treated as an asshole buddy by all the pundits.

I don't know why this piece a shit hasn't gone to trial yet and why viewers tolerate him at all.

2. I can top that...
DeLay's illegal Texas redistricting plot from 2003 is one reason why Texas lost one Democratic Congressman in 2008 instead of gaining two or three.

Maybe he will show some mercy and common sense now that they have been found guilty.

I don't mind his demonizing outrageous verdicts. That's politics as usual. It's the whisper campaigm that his client's opponent was a child molester that fried my ass.

Oh, and the idiot still says "Democrat Party".

14. It ISN'T powerful. It was Typical Wimpy.
They should have tasered his security guards, then him, then handcuffed and dragged his unconscious ass off stage.

As long as liberals do "symbolic" and "theatrical" events like this, instead of a freaking REAL arrest, nothing will happen. I'm sure it gets these pooftah protestors points in their little literary circles, and the ghosts of the ancient New Left might provide etherial applause, but it does nothing real to hurt and imprison Rove or Bush or the others.

15. I thought it was pretty dignified and effective myself.
Realistically they will never be able to arrest him, but they made a very symbolic gesture and read off his sins from the paper.

16. Realistically, only a dedicated team can arrest h im.
Symbolic gestures are pointless. If you get two symbols and clash them together, all they do is make your ears hurt.

If there were any people who really wanted to arrest Rove, Bush, et cetera, and had any degree of courage, and didn't have that wimpy New Left belief that violence is always evil, they COULD arrest them. Until someone has that kind of courage and sense of reality, don't bother us with these would-be street theater performers.

"DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A Polk County jury has returned guilty verdicts against four people who attempted to arrest former White House adviser Karl Rove during a fundraising appearance earlier this year in Iowa.

Found guilty of trespassing are retired Methodist minister Chet Guinn, two members of the social welfare group Des Moines Catholic Worker Community, Edward Bloomer and Mona Shaw, and former group member Kirk Brown.

The four were cited after attempting a citizen's arrest of Rove on July 25 at the Wakonda County Club in Des Moines, where Rove spoke at a Republican fundraiser. They were stopped at an entry gate."

18. Sometimes, on an appeal, the judges will actually increase the appellant's *
sentence or penalty.

I know this is not an appeal case, but wouldn't it be good if the judge had him remanded in custody to appear before that Committee he stands in contempt of.
