Obama plans to name Clinton to State
By MIKE ALLEN | 11/20/08 10:48 PM EST

Hillary Rodham Clinton will be named Barack Obama's secretary of state, Democratic sources say.

President-elect Barack Obama is "on track" to name Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) as his secretary of state shortly after Thanksgiving, two senior Obama aides said.

Financial disclosure issues have been worked out, aides said.

The officials said they expect her to accept. Clinton aides had no comment.

The choice unites the two rivals in the most protracted presidential primary in American history, giving Obama the "Team of Rivals" Cabinet he had promised.

Former President Bill Clinton authorized unprecedented disclosures about his finances to Obama's vetting team, and transition lawyers are satisfied, officials said.

3. Has anyone with a name gone on record on this?
Sorry, but "democratic sources" saying stuff is not sufficient.

7. She better damn well do what the President directs her to do
I thought she'd be happy having her own power as a Senator but if she just wants to be President Obama's voice abroad then more power to her.

8. There is pressure to get her out of that seat to give it to a younger Dem such as RFK jr.
who wants his dad's seat.

14. I'm alright with that I just think there would be better things she could do
In the administration. Or I think she'd leave a greater legacy by taking Teddy Kennedy up on his offer to help him drive through universal health care. That would be something historic to have your name attached to.

17. I, too, think AG or Senate leadership is a better place. But all the cabinet...
people he's nominated are good and he could shuffle them randomly and I'd still be happy.

The Democratic Party has a wealth of riches.

6. Wonderful and brilliant.
In addition to being a great Secreatary of State, Hillary (and, of course, Bill) will do an excellent job of drawing fire from the right wing media so Obama can walk through the battlefield unscathed.

10. I hadn't thought of it that way - Hillary as lightning rod
If Obama is smart (I love starting conditional sentences with sure-fire statements!) he can use that to great advantage.

12. They are not rivals...
They may have been rivals in their Primary run for Presidency but they both want the same things for America. They share far more things policy wise than they differ on. They will work wonderfully together.. Obama appears to be building a real Political "Dream Team" The best of the best.....I am in Awe..

16. I support her and the nomination,
one thing that will be quickly determined is just how much input his cabinet will have in the decision making.

We know that under the Bush Admin it was "my way or the highway" and most of the people that were in the cabinet followed along until it was too late (see Colin Powell) or if the didn't they were left out to hang (see Paul O'Niell).

Whether we agree on his choices or not, it won't take long to see what direction and input his cabinet will have in actually governing our country.
