5. The CNN Wire Blog:
AG Mukasey collapses during speech

"WASHINGTON (CNN) — Attorney General Michael Mukasey collapsed while giving a speech Thursday at the Federalist Society dinner at the Marriott Wardham Park Hotel."

Check here for more as it comes in, Cooper said EMTs were working on him. That doesn't sound good, sounds like a heart attack.

17. MSNBC has link, says he started shaking while giving speech then went down
"WASHINGTON - Attorney General Michael Mukasey collapsed during a speech Thursday night and was taken to a hospital.

Associate Attorney General Kevin O'Connor says Mukasey began shaking during a speech to the Federalist Society and collapsed. He did not immediately regain consciousness.

O'Connor, the No. 3 official at Justice, was traveling at the time and was alerted to the incident right after it happened."

19. Bloomberg has a lot, does NOT sound good for the poor guy:
"Nov. 20 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey collapsed while giving a speech in Washington tonight and was taken away on a gurney by emergency personnel.

Mukasey, 67, slumped at the lectern and fell to the floor as he neared the end of a speech to the Federalist Society. Several people gathered around him to offer aid, and emergency workers arrived.

Members of the audience, including former Attorney General John Ashcroft, formed a human wall so people could not view the attorney general as he was taken away. A member of the audience offered a prayer for Mukasey from the lectern and told everyone to go home.

Mukasey, a retired federal judge from New York, became attorney general in November 2007, replacing Alberto Gonzales, who resigned after a congressional investigation into allegations he politicized the department.

In his speech, the attorney general defended the Bush administration's anti-terrorism strategy against what he termed ``relentless criticism.''"

30. Crowding in those kinds of situations is a Bad Idea anyway
A few seconds can matter, especially if it's something like a stroke, and rubberneckers getting in the way of EMTs is not the best of things.

People wouldn't be able to tell an unconscious person from a dead person at a glance anyway; I'm assuming this was more keeping the gawkers at a safe distance and not just preventing the guy from being seen.

(Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall Gonzales and a few others trying to jerk Ashcroft around while he was on a hospital bed about some Bush policy or another? Maybe the guy's just got a "please don't fuck with the casualty" thing going on because of that. I hope I would.)

That said, something like this doesn't sound good, and if I can be temporarily heartless and political, it's really lousy timing for it too.

27. FOX NEWS has new information, sounds like stroke possibly:
"Mukasey was 15 to 20 minutes into his speech about the Bush administration's successes in combatting terrorism when he began slurring his words. He collapsed and lost consciousness, said O'Conner, the department's No. 3 official.

Mukasey's was noticeably shaking during his speech before he collapsed shortly before 10:20 p.m. EST. His security detail called 911. Mukasey was on the stage for 10 minutes being attended to by his FBI detail before medics arrived, according to a Justice Department official who was there. Mukasey was still breathing at the time, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to talk to the media.

A senior law-enforcement said Mukasey appeared to be talking when he was taken away. That official also spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the situation."
