Destruction is easy. Building is hard.
The Republican's major advantage over the past few decades is that they have stood for destruction.

Every campaign they have run has not been about building something. It's been about destroying the "Thems." As the headline says, building is hard, destruction is easy.

But this time around, it didn't work. Obama offered us a vision of what we always believed ourselves to be. And, this time around, the majority of Americans rejected the Republican's "vision" of "I've got mine -- fuck everybody else."

But Republicans have not gone away, nor will they. The mindset of today's Republican Party has been around as long as human greed, cruelty and the love of power have existed. That's not to say that the Democratic Party comprises the best aspirations of humanity. But they sure as hell come closer to it than do the Republicans.

So how do we keep the majority in a mindset that favors sane governance? The answer is, we can't. Only a wingnut fanatic would argue that FDR didn't rescue us from the depression and lead us to victory in WWII. Yet, once a middle class was established and the majority had comfy jobs and lives in suburbia, they began voting for Republicans.

Now that we are again in deep doo doo, the majority of people have turned to the Democratic Party seeking compassion for today's dire straights. And if/when Obama leads us out of the wilderness, how long do you think it will be before far too many will once again vote against their own interests?

Over the past 100 plus years, the Democratic Party has been an agent of construction while the Republican Party has been an agent of destruction.

Will a time ever come when the majority of Americans finally "get it?"
