Yusuf

As Cat Stevens, Yusuf sold over 60 million albums worldwide. At the height of his fame, he converted to Islam, adopted his Muslim name and retired from the music world. He has since devoted himself to educational and philanthropic causes in the Muslim community. He founded a school in his native London and the Small Kindness charity. He also received awards for his work in promoting peace. In '06, Yusuf returned to pop music. His new song, "Boots and Sand," is about his highly-publicized no-fly-list troubles.

1. He also supported the fatwa against Salman Rushdie.
After a huge outcry, says he was 'misinterpeted'. Also raised money for Hamas, again, he denied knowledge of it.

Fuck him.

2. I love Cat Stevens. His "Tea for the Tillerman" in 1971 profoundly influenced me.
Great album, but at 19, I fell head over heels in unrequited love for the first time ever.

Talk about raging hormones! She wasn't worth it, and ultimately rejected me (sigh). I dodged that bullet, and went on to adventures in love/lust that I am glad I had, and equally glad are over at 57.

But I will never forget that summer, and those songs.
