Texas Judge Sets Arraignment for Dick Cheney, Others for Conflict of Interest, Organized Crime Activity
Raymondville, TX (HNN) - A Texas judge has done what no other individual has done --- although many have thought about it: He has set a Friday, Nov. 21 arraignment date for Vice President Dick Cheney alleging prisoner abuse in a federal detention center.
Cheney and former U.S. Attorney General, Alberto Gonzales are among the eight indictments. The grand jury has found that the vice president has substantial financial holdings in the Vanguard Group, which invests in private prison companies. A portion of the indictment charges the vice president as participating in organized crime (RICO) as Cheney has influenced over federal immigrant detention centers.
Some attorneys argue that Willacy County Judge Manuel Banales lacks jurisdiction to order Cheney and other to court on the indictment.
According to reports, attorneys for several high profile defendants --- including prosecutors --- claim that the grand jury presentation was tainted by a prosecutor presenting evidence against political enemies.
