I have a question about GM retirees pension. My hubby is a recent GM retiree, less than 1 year. When
were discussing whether or not to take one of the buy-outs GM was offering, we received links to articles from the Detroit Free Press about how much money was in the retiree pension fund, that's where the money for these buy-outs comes from. They all stated it was over funded but extremes. A few even said they could give each employee wanting a buy-out $100,000 and still have more than enough for many years to come. Now another article( don't know if it was Free Press)stated than when Kirkorian started "nosing around GM" the UAW made GM put these pension funds in Fidelity ( I know that's where we get monthly checks from). So my question here is, is this money still there, where did all that money from pension fund go? This was supposed to be a separate entity from GM stock also they were supposed to give a large chunk of change to the UAW to start managing retiree health care. Did this ever come about? Just wondering here and info would be appreciated, thanks!
