3. In 2005 Toyota announced its expansion of it plants in Ontario Can
Several reason were cited, but the unstated reason seems to have been the most important, Canadian Universal Health Insurance.

2. Critical issue is NO union allowed.
I an not sure how much more they have to pay out of pocket for insurance,
what coverage is, how much hourly wages are, but I do that wages here are about 1/3 less than rest of country before the recession even hit.
Cost of living is lower, climbing fast tho.

4. Not Toyota's decision, I'm afraid.

It's up to Toyota's workers to have a union. Of course Toyota says no unions are allowed, but then so did Ford, GM, GE, Honeywell, Boeing, AT&T, Hyatt Regency, United Airlines, etcetera, etcetera.

It's always up to the workers. And to us citizens, to pass laws that make it easier for workers of any company, even the supposed in penetrable Wal-Mart, to unionize if they vote 50%+1. That law would be the Employee Free Choice Act.

5. I work for a Japanese company (not automaker)

I get free healthcare for myself and my family, which includes dental and eye care. Due to our aging workforce at the company, they are talking about charging us for healthcare, but it hasn't happened yet. We also have 401K, pension plan, paid sick leave, vacation, holidays, and personal days. You can earn extra sick leave hours by achieving yearly perfect attendance. They also provide health club membership and partial daycare reimbursement. They pay 100% of continuing education if it is related to your current position, and if you maintain a "C" average. They provide free life insurance equal to 3 times your base salary on yourself, and 1 times your salary on your spouse. I'm in a right-to-work state.

On edit: Our wages are comparable to other companies in the region that are in the same business, and they do a salary comparison with these companies yearly.
