I'm getting the feeling
Edited on Wed Nov-19-08 06:58 AM by Confusious
Nothing is going to really change under Obama. The dems will still be weak and spineless, the republicans will push them around, and we'll be apologizing for everything bush did, and that we do.

What else can I say when lieberman stays but dean goes.

Oh, and I think everyone is putting up the tombstone for the repugs WAY to soon. Lets check back in two or three election cycles.

On edit: Let me be a little more clear. The Rethuglicans want to put a knife in our back. The Dems are still playing like we're friends. I was hoping that would change. Its not going to.

I'm still hoping the economy improves, the world likes us more, health care comes around. I'm pretty sure thats going to happen. Its already happening.

But the demos are still wimps.

Obama wants to be friends with the rethugs. He's going to get his hand bitten off.

And our congressional leaders have learned nothing. They are wimps too.

3. Two Or Three Election Cycles?
So the election's a little over two weeks in the rear view and all is lost. Amazing. Damn, by now I was sure we'd be living in a "Progressive Paradise"...boooshie would be in jail, Rove strung up by piano wire in some square somewhere, Liebermann was spayed and neutered and not only did we bring the troops home from Iraq, we brought back all those who died from the great beyond. Sheesh!!!

Let's let President Obama take office first before the "All is lost" song and dance begins.

So you really think that President Obama is no different than the regime of the past 8 years? Seriously?

I could give a rat's ass about the repugnicans...we have a country that is a complete mess...economically, fiscally and emotionally, "political purity" isn't going to fix the problems any more now than they were supposed to under the previous regime. All I care for is for President Obama to get results and I don't are how he does it who who takes the ride with him.

5. I didn't say that
Edited on Wed Nov-19-08 06:30 AM by Confusious
I think we might go back to the Clinton years, which were great years, but I never really liked the new chief of staff, he has the same attitude and as the leadership of the house and senate, and I don't think they have learned anything the past 16 years.

And everyone seems to be declaring the Repuglicans dead. They have a way of coming back from the dead, multiple times, to our horror, with new and even more disgusting tactics.

19. Not According To My Teevee They Aren't
Last Sunday it was full of repugnicans...all playing their own silly blame games and ripping their corrupt party further to shreads. For a majority of American, not only is their party discredited, but their ideology as well. They can't govern and boooshie will be the next Hoover...a poison on his inept party they still haven't figured out, and may it take a good long time until they do.

I haven't seen anyone declare the GOOP dead...actually they're in a similar position that the Democrats were following 2004 and we saw how quick things change. However, their problems are deep and systemic...they have lost their identity and with it have become a regional and reactionary party.

This country needs a solid opposition, not the fools that current populate the parallel universe and I suspect that we'll see a rebirth of their party...all things are cyclical. Democrats are now on the rise, but that isn't always the case and a lot depends on how much President Obama is able to accomplish. If he's successful, there's nothing the GOOP can say or do...the onus is on them now to win us over, not visa vera.

17. You're right in both respects.
Good riddance to Lord Vader and The Worst President of All Time. There'll be a big change in the Executive, replacing a right wing extremist with a Democratic centrist. I don't like the centrist part of it but this is a great move in the right direction.

But I don't see any indication there will be any meaningful change in the Senate except for its relationship with the Executive. There will just be a bigger group of Democratic Senators who will spend their time wondering what they can do to make Lieberman and his GOP friends happy.

16. I understand completely. I got up early this morning and read about
50 negative posts... a real downer. Many were clearly from freepers. I considered writing a positive post and decided "screw it" why bother. I think a lot of other "positive posters" feel the same way and just go find something else to do. Have faith in our new President. He's the smartest guy you'll probably ever meet and he knows what the hell he's doing every single step of the way. Trust that there's a good reason for everything he says and does. Oh... and try to get some sleep, okay?

14. Governing never gets done by those who are quitters.
We're two weeks past the election and you've declared "it's all over, same old same."

I find that kind of attitude laughable. Governing never gets done by those who are quitters.

26. Did you learn anything about this man before you voted for him?
Don't mistake kindness for weakness or stupidity. Obama is still the smartest MF in the room and 'cool' about it. To be as young as he is, he is a shrewed and deliberate politician. There is a REASON for EVERYTHING he says and does. Just because WE are not privy to his motives doesn't mean we have to second guess his every move. As for Dems 'playing like we're friends,' Perception, is tricky. Things are not always as they seem.

Can we wait until at least January 22 before we make such foolish statements?

18. I don't see where it's out of line to raise these concerns
Yes, we need to let the Obama administration assume power and see what happens before issuing gloom-and-doom analyses...but I agree with the OP that it appears as though the seeds of our own failure are being sown with some of these early choices.

Still, I agree with Bill Maher who said Obama's super intelligent...let's give him a chance.

20. I have to agree, the rpukes are fascists and terrorists plain and simple
and the dems are f in idiots to think anything will change, once a bunch of murderers and greedy thugs get their way, they will always try to to the same.
I am a registered Dem and very seriously considering either not voting ever again or leaving the country. I did vote for Obama, despite serious reservations over the FISA vote.

25. I knew Republicans would be gunning for Obama before he even got into office, but
I thought Dems would at least wait a while. I guess I was wrong. Time for the circular firing squad folks, it's apparently over before it begins.
