Obama Pledges To End Torture To Help ‘Regain America’s Moral Stature In The World’

.................

CBS: There are a number of different things you can do early on pertaining to executive orders.

OBAMA: Right.

CBS: One of them is to shut down Guantanamo Bay. Another is to change interrogation methods that are used by U.S. troops. Are those things that you plan to take early action on?

OBAMA: Yes. I have said repeatedly that I intend to close Guantanamo, and I will follow through on that. I have said repeatedly that America doesn’t torture, and I’m going to make sure that we don’t torture. Those are part and parcel of an effort to regain America’s moral stature in the world.

8. I thought we were against executive orders?
I am 100% against torture but I am pretty sure that closing down Guantanamo and ceasing torture is under the purvey of the legislative branch of our government.

Just because a Democrat is in office are we so willing to concede so much power to the executive?

9. I would like to believe him...
but his words rings hollow considering that ANDY ROONEY appeared on screen not 10 minutes after Obama made that promise. I think ending this decades-old domestic torture should be his administration's #1 priority.

10. Are we for or against an imperial President?
Bush created his own perverted "war" judiciary by fiat... usurping powers to the executive that are not in the Constitution.

It would be better if Obama would take the lead and forced this issue back where it belongs. That is, Congress. I do not want to support executive privilege just because it is going my way.
