Irony - Bush Speech Defends His Policies And Deregulation On Day DOW Drops Below 8000
Edited on Thu Nov-13-08 02:29 PM by Median Democrat
I am not saying that Bush's speech caused the DOW to fall. Rather, it just goes to show just how disconnected from reality and the rest of the world Republicans have become. They have engaged in a collassal self-delusion whereby conservatives now assert that Bush was not really conservative while they fail to explain why the policies they propose are different from those pushed by Bush. Indeed, the GOP has gotten so accustomed to lying to the American people that they are just as easily lying to themselves. The fact that Bush accepts no responsibility for the damage his policies have caused or that conservatives are not questioning the policies of the past 8 years underscores why they got their ass handed to them in 2008.

Sadly, rather than re-examining thier beliefs, the GOP has just gotten more crazy and extreme. This coupled with a virulent strain of anti-intellecutalism being fostered by the GOP means that the GOP is moving closer to facism, rather than towards the middle.

Asserting the global financial crisis is “not a failure of the free market,” President George W. Bush on Thursday called on the world leaders meeting this weekend to agree on a modest set of reforms aimed at preventing future collapses.

Bush’s main message to the leaders about to converge on Washington: Reforms won’t help if abandon the free market and restrict trade.

“Government intervention is not a cure-all,” Bush was to say in a speech here, according to prepared remarks released in advance by the White House.
