Is Ellen Tauscher (D-CA) another DINO extraordinaire? ......
I'm listening to her on the Stephanie Miller Show now, and she's pushing this "any Iraq agreement must include immunity for our troops" meme. She sounds like a right-wing talk show host, saying things like, "they're not over there in a water gun fight." So that excuses mass murder?

:wtf:

1. I'd say pretty close to it.
She's chair of the New Democrat Coalition.(social moderate, pro-business.) She's had a seat on the Armed Services committee for some time now.

6. Yes, but she reflects the district.
Tauscher is about the best we can do with the high number of Repubs in Lamorinda and other parts of the district.

2. Yeah, she's an idiot
I remember her almost in tears when * invaded Iraq. "The President lied to me!" She believed him when he said he'd go back to the UN before invading. I shouted at the tv, "Your surprised? Haven't you been watching him?"

11. She's an idiot, and she's my representative, but...
I have to give her partial credit on her explanation on the war resolution vote. She stated that she was required to decide her vote based on the intelligence presented to her. To her credit, when she discovered the deception, she spoke out loudly against the Bush* administration presenting cherry picked material. She was genuinely pissed off, but as they say, Elvis has left the building.

All that being said, She is still 100% DLC and she became my representative by default after some creative gerrymandering.

5. We need to watch California and New York IMO
Just as we turned some Red states this year I don't think we should ever take these two "true blue" for granted. They've been trying to get the machines into NY when we have like zero problems with our current systems, and obviously there's a bit too much RW influence going on in Cali these days with the prop 8 fiasco.

7. US troops could still be prosecuted by the US military
The concern is that the Iraqi judicial system may not give a fair trial to our servicemen.

I don't think you will find many family of servicemen who would want their loved one's put in that situation.

9. actually she's right..
And even Center for American Progress is concerned about this:

Leaked drafts seem to indicate that Iraqi and American negotiators have tackled the difficult issue of U.S. troop immunity by reaching a consensus position—that Iraqi judicial authorities would have only a limited ability to try U.S. troops for major crimes committed off-duty, which is fairly rare in Iraq. But Americans need to know more details on how this arrangement would work in practice if tens of thousand of U.S. troops remain in Iraq for several more years.

10. Which of our troops would you hand over to a foreign gubmint for punishment first?
Anyone in mind? What's your idea of a proper and just punishment? Imprisonment, or death?
