Reserve April----The Mobilization to End Poverty--- Washington, D.C.
The election of Senator Obama represents a historic moment for our nation and world. A new door has opened and a new dawn of leadership will soon begin. However, even the most committed president will face incredible pressures and obstacles in making poverty reduction a priority, particularly during this economic crisis.

This April, Sojourners will host The Mobilization to End Poverty – a historic gathering of thousands of Christians here in Washington, D.C. Together, we will call the new president and members of Congress to take immediate steps to address extreme poverty. And we need you to be there.
Learn more about The Mobilization to End Poverty.

We’ve already sent notice to President-elect Barack Obama, that we expect him to join The Mobilization and address the thousands gathered. While we intend to listen to him, we will also demand accountability for the promises he makes to us and to those living in poverty.
Along with the newly elected president, we’ve also invited nationally known speakers and advocates such as Tavis Smiley, Gov. Mike Huckabee (invited), Rich Stearns, Rev. Sharon Watkins, Jeffrey D. Sachs, Rep. John Lewis, John Perkins, Alexia Kelley, Brian McLaren, and Rev. Freddie Haynes – plus many others who will join Sojourners’ Rev. Jim Wallis for this historic, three-day event.

8. Me,too..... but I'm so glad they are doing this!
I hope that Obama accepts the speaking invitation (I think there's a good chance of that!), and I hope that people are able to make an impact on their visit to capitol hill .... speaking to reps and senators!

Maybe the day will come when we poor folk can be there for a triumphal march! :hi:

16. It's sad that most of the Christians I know don't give a shit about ending poverty.

I wish you well!

I am a staunch atheist and will soon find my own way to help others. I've decided that for me, it must be religion-free.

Universal Health Care is the way to prevent poverty for so many. Someone should invite Congressman Kucinich to speak about this most important legislation...
