LAURA'S HOT, BUT DUBYA'S NOT

LAURA Bush is lining up a multimillion-dollar deal to write her memoirs - but the first lady's lame-duck hubby may have to wait years before cashing in on a tell-all about his two troubled terms as president. ....

Those same literary poobahs see George W. Bush as literary poison for now. "Dubya is going to have to wait about five years," a top publishing insider said. "He's so unpopular at this point that there's no market for any book by him." ....

Asked how long George should wait before shopping his memoir, Janklow quipped, "30 or 40 years might be good."

Public relations guru Ken Sunshine, who was Mayor Dinkins' chief of staff, said: "In time, there'll be interest particularly in how it went sour. But right now, is at such an abysmally low approval rating, I don't think anybody thinks he could sell two books." A new CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll found 76 percent of Americans disapprove of Bush's performance.

Another insider said: "Bill Clinton's memoirs, published by Alfred A. Knopf, were hugely successful. Ronald Reagan's were a financial disaster for Simon & Schuster. Bush is probably more of a financial risk for publishers at this point than either Clinton or Reagan." ....

OBAMANEWS: Election Night both Clintons still worked the phones on Obama's behalf. Also, although the president-elect called Hillary often before, he did not phone that special day . . . Possible Bill gets some freshly appointed cosmetic title like maybe special envoy to the Middle East which a) looks good, and b) actually utilizes his talent . . . While Hillary's run finds her deep in the hole financially, she raised $10 mil for Obama. He promised her $1 million back. So far she's gotten, give or take a pledge, $300 thou.

Bill Frist, etc etc. and thinking, "Maybe nobody wants to read this detritus."

2. I guess most publishers feel they can cut out the middle man ...
and go directly to Karl Rove for the book.

3. if he wrote an HONEST tell-ALL autobiography, it would be a HUGH bestseller...
maybe he could even work with kevin phillips, greg palast & kitty kelley on the manuscript, and for help in remembering some of the 'foggy areas'...if j.h.hatfield were still around, i'm sure that he could have contributed some pertinent info to the collaborative effort as well.

4. publisher/printer should just cut to the chase and print it
on a two-ply perforated roll.

then it will sell.
