Japan, U.S. to review crisis plan
The Yomiuri Shimbun -- http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/world/20081111TDY02311.htm

The Japanese and U.S. governments have begun a radical review of a plan that prepares Self-Defense Forces and the U.S. military for a crisis on Japanese soil or emergencies in areas surrounding Japan, such as the Korean Peninsula, sources said Monday.

...

This is the second drastic review of the plan--the first being made during 2006 and 2007. Neither government has made an announcement regarding the existence of the plan.

Listed below are 10 of the points up for consideration:

--Selection of private airports and ports to be used by the U.S. military in a state of emergency.

--Control of airspace, including matters such as flight restrictions.

--The medical support system, including the admission and transportation of wounded U.S. soldiers.

--The Japanese government's treatment of people considered by the United States to be prisoners of war.

--Coordination over preferential usage of radio wavelengths by the U.S. military and the SDF.

--Response to Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) attacks.

--Improvement of information sharing between Japan and the United States.

--Close inspection of facilities prioritized for protecting the U.S. military.

--Consideration of mutual backup supply support.

--Treatment of the war dead and missing persons.
