Sebelius, McCaskill eyed as Dems' party chair
Howard Dean won't run again for chair of the Democratic National Committee, several sources say.

Possible replacements?

Kathleen Sebelius and Claire McCaskill, who, incidentally, campaigned together for Barack Obama in the closing days of the campaign.

Here is the (early) list of potential DNC Chairs:

Claire McCaskill: McCaskill's name was prominently mentioned in the HuffPo piece but according to sources close to her it is unlikely she would take the job. McCaskill was one of Obama's most prominent -- and effective -- surrogates during the primary season and is respected by the operative class for her political acumen.

Kathleen Sebelius: Obama made no secret of his admiration for Sebelius during the primary and general election campaign. Sebelius will be term limited out of office in 2010 and might be interested in such a prominent national post. On the other hand, Sen. Sam Brownback (R) is widely expected to leave the Senate in 2010 to run for governor -- leaving an open seat in which Sebelius would almost certainly be considered a favorite.

1. The Post also lists Kaine and Richardson, though I still want to see Plouffe take the job.
With Plouffe we could be just about sure that the DNC would keep up the spectacular 50 state work.

8. Plouffe ran one Hell of a campaign, but how does that translate into running the party?
Not arguing, just asking. For a guy who's not all that tall, Dr. Dean is leaving some huge shoes to fill.

Admittedly, I don't know anything of Plouffe's background aside from this campaign.

9. What stands out at me is his experience as executive director of the DCCC. Admittedly,
He's never had a job that would be as imposing as DNC chairman, but I believe that he could make it work.

3. In what fevered dream
will Sam Brownback manage to overcome his unspectacular Senate career and win the governorship of Kansas?
Only in ones were elections (and trend maps) have no consequences.

6. I'm torn... I am not sure that either should be the chair because they are sitting Governors.
But think it would be a good idea for a woman to be chair.

10. McCaskill is a Senator.
But I think your argument still applies. She's probably most effective in the Senate. Moreover, I think if she realizes her potential in the Senate, she'd be worth a look as our presidential candidate in 2016.
