Signing statements & Obama
Who thinks Obama will make use of them and how long before the republicans complain they aren't constitutional?

1. Signing statements are constitutional as long as they are not abused
Bush didn't invent them, but he did take them to a whole new level of abuse.

4. I'd like to see him "push the envelope" once or twice.
Just for the entertainment value.

2. They'll complain his very first one is, even if it's just a smiley at the end of a bill (nt)

5. Moreover, they'll accuse Democrats of having a double-standard
"Dems complained when Bush used signing statements, but they haven't made a peep about Obama's."

Of course, the difference is in the application and abuse, but that's a kind of nuanced thinking alien to Conservatives.

6. Sheer numbers alone debunks the GOPs arguments
Bush wrote over 3000 signing statements thus far, even though 6/8 years were Republican majority in the house. Obama won't come CLOSE to that amount, I can guarentee you. Most of the important legislation will be put through Congress and voted on in a bi-partisan fashion. If they think signing statements are unconstitutional when he may use them at a few times to undo the serious damage done to our country, what does 3000 say about how quickly we have to repeal what Bush has done in this presidency as unconstitutional?

7. 3000??? Have they even passed that many new laws? Where is this number from?

Are the facts given on this site old? About 140 maybe in all?

Actually says Clinton had more???

The real problem with Bush:
"The controversy is about the kind of signing statements Bush has issued."

8. According the MSNBC about 2 weeks ago, it was over 3000
Ill try to find the exact episode of Countdown. The number of laws that came about it are much lower, yes, but not all of them had to be made into laws. they were one time clauses
