Sen Dan Inouye of Hawaii becomes another Powerful Force in DC
Edited on Mon Nov-10-08 11:39 AM by opihimoimoi
He is the Chair for the Appropriation Committee...Sen Byrd has stepped down and Inouye was chosen...

The 80 something must be doing good cause he just got married a few months ago....

Hawaii is well represented in DC these days...we are lucky I guess.

Come, we go Luau...eat drink, laugh, sing....enjoy

1. very good choice, he was next in line wasn't he?

oh another thing I heard is that Foreign Select Committee will be looking for a replacement for Joe Biden unless he still wants to chair, which I think they said could be done, but if a replacement is named it could be Russ Feingold, that would be sweet.

2. Didn't he defend Stevens at his trial? Well, yes he did
Honolulu, Hawaii – The following is U.S. Senator Daniel K. Inouye’s statement:
“I am deeply saddened by the jury’s decision to find Senator Ted Stevens guilty of the charges. However, this may not be the final decision as this matter is subject to appeal.

“I hope the people of Alaska continue to believe in Ted Stevens, to remember his contributions, and to look upon him as a friend.

“He will continue to be my friend.”

7. Yup. And I believe Inouye is second only to Ted Stevens when it comes to procuring pork.

18. Loyalty has a price....esp when the dude is found GUILTY...but then Inouye
is not a crook...not in the same sense Stevens is.

4. I like Sen. Inouye. I first noticed him during the Iran-Contra hearings.
The only gripe I have with him is that I fear he won't be much of an obstacle to appropriations for defense items I oppose. I could be wrong, though. I admit I haven't gone farther than think about it.

I think he's a fine man . . . from an outstanding state.

6. I was sorry to see Our Senator step dwn but I'm proud of him doing
what he thinks is best for the country. Robert Byrd just showed us that he's unselfish as well as patriotic. Quite a contrast from a guy like Joe Lieberman.

A :toast: to Hawaii and her smart voters who elect democrats.

9. Sen Byrd is 90 and increasingly frail...he had his salad days...it was good for the Nation to step
aside.

Sen Byrd has the respect of many citizens for his long career and many good decisions...

Joe L? Inouye dumped him to support Lamont 2 years ago...

Lets hope he can do the job as good as Byrd did...

:toast:

You guys know how to pick um too...lol

12. Any hope of up and coming democratic stars stepping forward in Hawaii?

Both of your senators are getting up in age and I wondered if any new blood
is shinning through on your local scene?

14. Our Jr Rep Mazie Hirano might fit the bill....If we think....all too many of our Leaders are getting
of age....and hardly anyone of caliber to step up...

The Dems need some sort of training program...they do this for them 747 Pilots don't they???

8. Not a fan
He spoke up for Stevens and to me this means he has no problem with corruption. Also the heavy pork thing is troublesome.

If he backs a corrupt Senator it sure looks like he looks the other way with corruption.

11. I respect the man......
.....when I was first interested in politics I recall him heading up the Iran-Contra hearings. Someone Reagan bloodsucker called our local radio station and called him "Senator Pineapple", and I called in at age ten to defend him and yell at the scumbag caller.

Still, he seems a bit too old for this....no?
