Edited on Sat Nov-08-08 05:10 AM by MrScorpio
Just get it all out of your system

In case you forgot, all of us have a job to do to fix things

The stuff you're all fighting over is about as big a blinking sign as there is about that.

I don't want this place to self-destruct before we get started

1. But whining and griping is easier...
and besides, we've already got the circular firing squad lined up.

2. Hey at least its not the primaries.. its total asylum then.

And there are trolls here of all stripes.. and sometimes du'ers like to rumble with them.

Whether they realize they are trolls or not I do not know. We all get fooled sometimes.

One question though .... who broke all those things ? You think they will help clean up the mess?

3. It really saddens me that were not celebrating Obama's victory right now.
The in-fighting and anger is very depressing. Last week this place was the only thing I read....now it just breaks my heart.

7. sorry...
no justice, no peace.

In a strange way maybe this is just the kind of thing needed to keep us from becoming complacent and moderating/appeasing the right.

So if this helps people to call bullshit and keep fighting, I say good.

*also, for all the good religious people who voted for this monstrous prop8, get it into your thick skulls--you can't 'vote away the gay'. You've just bought yourselves 4 more years of sitting in the gay 'dentists chair'...enjoy.

8. We ARE celebrating Obama's victory, Lilyeye
Edited on Sat Nov-08-08 05:49 AM by Chulanowa
But celebration is taking a back burner to advocating the basic civil rights of people in three states (And more to come, I'm sure). And also trying to quash the false meme rising from the anger of those people that another community might be responsible.

Now, myself, I don't think DU will be a better place if we just sit back and allow the bus to roll over the GLBT community again, nor if we allow that blame-game bomb to detonate while we're celebrating.

We have four (sorry, eight!) years to celebrate president Obama. This is now, though.

11. "four, no eight"
your assumption that Obama will be re-elected has no foundation in reality.

Just look at the mess GWB created, yet even with this, lies to war and economic mess, a huge amount of people still voted for McCain. That added to the fact that no serious effort has been or probably will be made to correct the voting systems in most states does not bode well for re-election.

it's now or never, me thinks.

12. Does your butt get sore from sitting on the panic button all the live-long day?
Lots of people did vote for McCain. But it was by no means a close race. He got clobbered. The Republicans have no one decent ro run in 2012, and I doubt our guy is going to be anything even remotely resembling the dithering idiot son of an inbred alcoholic we've had to endure for the last eight years. So unless Obama decides not to run in '12, we'll be keeping him around for a while.

Even if your pessimism and dire warnings of doom and locusts come true, four years is still plenty of time for celebration. We can't wait that long for this other stuff though, y'dig?

24. If you were a gay person...
...and went to bed joyous that Obama had won, then woke up with the realization that CALIFORNIA of all places voted to deny you rights, maybe you'd understand.

4. It will end for me
Edited on Sat Nov-08-08 05:28 AM by crappyjazz
I won't be reading the threads that I know are going to be upsetting.

I did learn that unless you're part of the status quo around here, you better sit down and shut up. And so I will.

I imagine that will contribute to more peaceful days at DU.

Who cares about my concerns. I'll just "get out of my system" that my brothers and sisters are just second class citizens.

think for themselves. I don't think there is much hope for consensus here. (I wouldn't have it any other way.)

seem to recall them being said in the middle of the primary.

Does the infighting ever stop here?

Or within the Democratic Party?

17. Are you new here?
Don't hold your breath bro.

We're not "all" infighting. Obviously the loud ones will draw a lot of attention. But there are plenty of good liberals of all types ready to work for change (including human rights for all) instead of bring each other down. It's a large but largely silent majority. Many are out there doing stuff and don't have time to post much.

Any way you look at it, Obama's election and the Dem gains across the board are giant leaps in the right direction.

20. The "infighting" will increase.
We are just now getting to the good part.

We live in interesting times.
We have the opportunity to participate in the Battle for the Soul of the Democratic Party.
To quote Rumsfeld, DU will get "messy".

Wear good armor.

Never take anything personally.

Ignore Snark.

Sift for Substance

Alert on Personal attacks.

Don't feed the trolls.

Think for yourself and question authority.

I will be there, and I won't be quiet.
