DUers. . .GEORGIA IS NOW TIED!!! CHAMBLISS LOST HIS 4% lead
According to electoral-vote.com. . .That's Minnesota, Alaska and Georgia is tied.

What is the likelihood we could take ALL!?! It would be the perfect ending to a perfect election cycle.

On top of that, there are 8 tied House seats. . .Which districts are they and could we take them? We have 254. . .could we get 262?

2. I don't think electoral-vote.com is that precise.
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 10:49 PM by MJDuncan1982
The SoS has Chambliss at 49.8% (which is fine by me as it is <50%).

ETA: If Obama makes a week/weekend tour of Georgia (e.g., Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus, Savannah, Macon), Martin will win the run-off.

10. I don't know if Obama can afford to do that now...
He needs to spend all of his time getting up to speed on all the daunting issues that he will face as soon as his right hand comes down after the swearing in....

HE can't stoop to blatant poltics right now but he can send a whole lot of surregates such as the Clintons, Michelle, et al...

14. Are you kidding me? He at least needs to come to Atlanta - certainly if it turns out this
is the 60th seat.

Weren't we lampooning McCain a few weeks back for being unable to do more than one thing?

19. We have a President that can do more than one thing at a time.
He just needs to be himself.

21. But being overtly poltical when he is essentially cramming for the job
isn't all that productive...

Maybe a fund raiser or a campaign stop but nothing should be done that will interfere with the daunting task at hand...

25. He might win, but I doubt it will register with the voting machine programmers (Diebold/Premier).
Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't GA vote on paperless touch screens?

I would not bet on Chambliss losing unless he's out of the good graces of the DRE vendor that runs the state.

that would distort an election result. I am delighted to see scrutiny applied.

4. With Georgia it comes down to the run off
it doesn't matter who is in the lead unless the lead is over 50%(IIRC).

20. Yes, there will definitely be a run-off
"ATLANTA -- It’s official. There will be a runoff between republican Saxby Chambliss and democrat Jim Martin for a U.S. senate seat... The Fulton County Board of Elections says there will be a runoff between Martin and Chambliss even though they haven’t counted all the votes."

That makes about as much sense as a hole in the head, but there you go....

8. I am so glad Gordon Smith lost in Oregon
Because if we'd missed getting him this time of all times, I have to think he would have been a Senator for life. Let's see who else gets de-railed from their political career.

15. AS an Oregonian, I've got to say that Gordo was far from the worst, either in
Oregon history (remember Packwood???), or in the current senate. And Merkely is pretty hard to get excited about. Still and al, I'm damned glad that I played a (miniscule) part in bringing Gordo home.

16. Oh I remember Senator Tongue
And Hatfield. Hell, even Wayne Morse! And while Smith is no Sam Brownback or Jon Cornyn, he had his very own special brand of Republican smarminess. And boy, did a lot of it come out during the campaign!

But as far as being wholly unresponsive to constituents, Gordo was practically by himself. I went to his office with a group from the Rural Organizing Project a couple of years ago. Despite being notified weeks in advance that the delegation was coming, and despite the fact that people came to Portland from all over the state (I had to walk three blocks, but that's not what I came to talk about here), Smith could only see fit to send out a flunky to tell the delegation that he couldn't meet with them, but if they had something in writing, Flunky would be glad to see that the Senator knew about it. I've also called his office from time to time about one issue or another. No reply, no call back, no acknowledgement. In talking with other people who've call his office, my experience with their surly phone people wasn't unique.

A Senator doesn't have to be Jim Inhofe or Tom Coburn to be an odious little toad (though those two are undeniably OLTs).

9. And fivethirtyeight.com says that Begich will beat Stevens after
early and absentee ballots are counted..

Uncounted Votes May Push Begich Past Stevens

Although Ted Stevens currently holds a lead of approximately 3,200 votes in ballots counted to date in Alaska's senate contest, there is good reason to believe that the ballots yet to be counted -- the vast majority of which are early and absentee ballots -- will allow Mark Begich to mitigate his disadvantage with Stevens and quite possibly pull ahead of him.

The reasoning behind this is simple: some early ballots have been processed, and among those ballots Begich substantially leads Stevens. A tally of Alaska's 40 house districts as taken from Alaska's Division of Elections webpage suggests that Begich has won about 61% of the early ballots counted so far, as compared with 48% of ballots cast on Election Day itself.

Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 11:23 PM by Historic NY
that he needs their help by electing Martin. The message needs to also get out to the A/A community to come an vote. Sending the remains of his presidential ground game in could do wonders to GOTV.

Heck he could send Michelle there, that would work too.

17. I don't think this is correct
Electoral-vote.com I think made it artificially tied so as it would not be projected for Chambliss since there will be a runoff. It would be really nice to knock off Chambliss, but regardless it is good to come close in a race that electoral-vote.com did not regard as a potential pickup until about a month ago. We probably have a better chance in Minnesota and Alaska right now, both are uphill battles still.

23. I think Obama should campaign in Georgia...
At least cut a commercial like he did for Jeff Merkley. I know he's vetting his cabinet members and cramming for his role as President, but it really wouldn't take much - just a few rallies here and there. Hell, W did it all the time (except this year when he turned into a political pariah). I know Obama is for bipartisanship, but he also knows he needs a true majority in the Senate to get any of his new programs passed. Republicans lay on the "reach across the isle" rhetoric, but when was the last time since 2000 that they have actually done it? Now that it looks like Lieberman is going to caucus with the Republicans, we need to dump some serious cash into these campaigns and have or influential Democrats make campaign appearances to help these Dem Senators elected.
