Not commenting on Obama, more on Reagan/Bush. We were closer to bankruptcy as a nation then than now, but BushCo was lying and covering it up, and the media helped willingly. If there had been a DU then, people might have a more clear idea of exactly how bad things were. They were bad. The banking industry then was on the verge of collapse, the S&Ls had collapsed, most government agencies had been decimated through bad leadership and sometimes deliberate sabotage. Our foreign image was a joke, after randomly bombing Libya and invading Grenada and shooting down Iranian jetliners and trying to bully our way into a war with Iran.

Back then most of us only found out what was going on through the media and a couple of offbeat magazines, so we just didn't know. But they were as bad then as now. People just didn't realize.

Just sayin'. But yeah, Obama will have a hell of a time fixing things, and we won't like all the decisions he's going to have to make. I hope we all realize that, and give he and his administration room to work.

5. To Some Here, Complaining, Bitching, And Spewing Vitriol Is All They Know. It's Their Hobby.

It doesn't matter what Obama does or doesn't do. They will nitpick and search for every possible opening they can in order to engage in their favorite hobby; tantrum throwing.

Those of us that see through it and recognize the irrationality, indecency, counter productive nature and ignorance of their comments, must stick together and defend against them in as great numbers as possible in order to thwart their idiocy.

People here are already complaining about his choice of Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff.
I can certainly understand why, but I'm not going to get worked up about it.
Obama will be Emanuel's boss, not the other way around.

There are going to be PLENTY of things that PLENTY of us are going to disagree with in an Obama administration.
And it's perfectly fine to hold the man accountable.
I'm just not going to bitch about anything until he really does fuck something up.
Which will happen.
Then, the telling part will be how he responds to the fuck-up.

That's what America, and DU, is about.

On the other hand, I'm not going to do it lightly. A couple of the comments I've seen about him have been well considered and informative, and I was glad to see them. Many are just of the complaining variety. I'm not infatuated with Obama, so I don't gush unrealistically about him, but that also means I won't feel jilted by him, so I won't complain like a spurned suitor. He campaigned as all things to all people: progressive, moderate, almost conservative on some issues. That's how you win. People are going to be necessarily disappointed when he begins defining himself through his actions. That's just inevitable.

So I might criticize if I think I have something constructive to say, but I won't gripe about every little thing I dislike. Mostly I'm going to give him room to work. And I'll praise the Hell out of what he does right. He's ours, he's a lot better than the Republican alternatives, and no matter how badly he might screw up from time to time, he'll still be closer to what I want in a president than the Republican options would ever have been. So that's going to be the underlying factor in whatever I think about him.

And I won't criticize those who have an honest gripe.

Besides, there will always be differences in our ideas, but he is going to do the best he cn with what he has, THIS we KNOW.

I am actually still enjoying the idea that I can wake up and think, "Gosh, I actually might have a shot at finishing my degree... or , wow I may someday get stable enough to biuy a home..."

so let's relax, and keep visioning what we would like to see as this country and world changes. It will take some time, but there is a wave of opportunity here. Let them work on the details at this time...there wiul be plenty oif time for us to give our 2 cents, we get to be supportive right now in bringing the vision to reality.

11. DU will not be that nice.

When I think about how Pelosi was viewed on day 101, I expect the same level of scrutiny for Obama. Already, his cabinet choices are being microexamined.

I really hope he has surrounded himself with "the brightest POLITICAL minds of our times".

There will be no slack cut for this man. None at all.

My one hope is that he will be forgiven if he becomes a chain smoker. He's got to have some outlet to the madness he's going to inherit.
