Boycott the funders of Prop 8. Here's just a few to go after NOW.
It's a sad day here in America. On the very same day we elected our first minority President, we also saw a well-coordinated effort vote to strip a basic human right away from millions of ordinary citizens.

Our rights must never be subject to popular vote. The best way to fight back against this injustice is to go after the people who spent their money to fund this travesty. A rather lengthy list can be found at Californians Against Hate's Dishonor Roll, but here are some notable names for you.

Please join me in a boycott of these companies, and write to tell them that you won't spend any more money with companies that spend money on hate.

Proctor And Gamble

A major partner of P&G, "Cotton Buds," was one of the largest contributors to this travesty through its founder and owner, Dewitt Paul. Let P&G know that as long as they partner with this company, you will not purchase anything they manufacture.

The Procter & Gamble Company Corporate Communications
1 Procter & Gamble Plaza
Cincinnati, OH 45201

Activision

Executives at the company that makes "Guitar Hero" apparently prefer to play with the heart strings of their customers, thanks to $5,000 in donations to Prop 8.

Activision, Inc.
3100 Ocean Park Blvd.
Santa Monica, CA 90405

Bank of America

Gobbling up struggling little banks thanks to the mortgage crisis isn't enough for executives at BoA, they gobbled up your rights with $10,000 donated by executives. Tell them you want to make a withdrawal.

Bank of America Corporate Center
100 North Tryon Street
Charlotte, North Carolina 28255

NVIDIA

The maker of video cards apparently wants to paint a new picture of the world, one without gay rights, as evidenced by $15,000 in donations from their executives. Don't buy NVIDIA graphics cards, and don't buy any machines pre-built with them. Instead, let the companies using them know that you don't support people who support hate.

NVIDIA CORPORATE OFFICE:
2701 San Tomas Expressway
Santa Clara, CA 95050
Tel: 408-486-2000
Fax: 408-486-2200

Avery-Dennison

Avery likes labels. A lot. Not just mailing and shipping labels, but also "faggot" and "queer." At least their CFO, the guy in charge of spending their money, does. He gave $5,000 to take away your right to marry. Tell Avery that you have a label for them: "supporters of bigotry."

And I'm sad to report:

The Walt Disney Company

Executives at the Mouse spent $5,000 to make California the Unhappiest Place on Earth for the GLBT community. Let them know how sad this makes you, and that they made sure you will not have a magical day.

Walt Disney Co.(H Q), The.
500 S. Buena Vista St.
Burbank, CA 91521

These are the ones that stood out to me. They don't want us, then they don't want our money, either, as far as I'm concerned.

2. Err, I was under the impression that Walt Disney Co. was progressive on GLBT issues.
Are you suggesting that we boycott these companies because some of their employees have privately donated?

4. I was, too.
The executives at these companies, the ones making the decisions and getting the most money, are the ones spending that money to take away rights. That's why we have to stop the flow of funds.

Should employers have the right to fire people based upon the personal political donations of their employees?

I haven't been able to dig up just how many individual donation the Catholic church put in, but as you can see, their Knight of Columbus put in a huge chunk.

18. Ahmanson inherited 100's of millions.
He's a major funder of the religious right, and was busy funding the schism in the Episcopal church over gay priests. Mother Jones had a major article on him last year.

Prince, think Blackwater and Amway.

Templeton, think mutual funds.

We can't. We have no way to bring pressure on them. Unless you want a nationwide "boycott Mormons" campaign, which isn't practical.

12. Hey...you wanna go after the big dogs not the chump changers.
KOC is a homophopic, and anti abortion and birth control organization that hides behind separation of church and state, and uses millions in donations from Catholics to ramrod through legislation just like this. Same with FOF. The individual's who give donations to churches that then funnel them through to enact this stuff, get the added bonus of writing off the donations on their income taxes. Everyone else that gives money to the NO side does not get any such write off.

That what the lawsuits filed yesterday are about

You want real change, we start with them.

24. Boycotting Mormons
is not a bad idea. Lets go for it. I received a request from Marriott today asking me about my stay last week at one of their hotels. I sent them this reply. I am happy to say I enjoyed my stay at your hotel. As usual it was clean, efficient and friendly. However, this will be the last time I stay at any of your hotels due to your support for Proposition 8 in California. I cannot support the efforts of anyone who chooses to back measures designed to take away rights of Americans and which softens the line between Church and State.

13. Sucks about NVIDIA
But if you have ATI card compatibility issues with your favorite games, there's not much choice. Not that I'll be in the market for a new card for 2-3 years anyway, and by then prop8 and the other hate legislation will hopefully be overturned.

15. Boycotts achieve NOTHING. The only way to really affect change is direct action against individuals
The execs of those companies. The officers of the catholic and mormon churches.

Companies and institutions do not make decisions.

People make decisions and it is people who have to be confronted on those decisions.

Matt Owens, La Canada, CA
Walt Disney Company, Finance
$5,000 on 9/11/08

I think that's a donation made by that one, individual.

Disney itself is already feuding against Dobson and the rest of the fundies for being too pro-gay.

There are better reasons than THIS to boycott Disney-- like their Made in China crap and their anti-Union activities in California.

However, I still think it's worth calling to complain to Disney, and directly to Matt Owens and his boss.
