Reported an online threat to SS about Obama this morning
I am a member of the forum GoldisMoney.info (there are some repug/Libertarian kooks there, but I participate for the precious metals/stocks info there), and one member this morning posted this thread:

Would it be patriotic to kill Obama at this point?

Listening to the radio this morning made me think. The hosts gave evidence that Obama in his own words and in his books is a communist. Many callers were calling in agreement. IF this is indeed true, this man should NOT be president! If he is not willing to step down (a choice I think he should be given) would it not be the patriotic thing to have him killed?

I grew up with the phrase: Better dead than RED

The old timers would NEVER stand for this!!

Anyone who could get close enough to have this done would most likely forfeit his life, but it would be for the "sake of the country"

A TRUE AMERICAN HERO if you will.

Thoughts on this? Should I spearhead this type of movement? (I'm serious)

Counterthoughts are most welcome.

The rest of the thread were calls for the mods to remove it (I posted it was being reported), but I captured a screenshot of the posters threat. The mods deleted it while I was on the phone with the SS agent giving the URL. The agent called me back and asked that I fax a copy of the screenshot, which I did.

I've seen some nefarious/menacing comments about Obama around online recently, but this seemed unambiguous/direct enough to warrant a phonecall to the SS's DC office (Intelligence Dept).

Hope I did the right thing.

36. Send copies of the screenshot and all info to Obama headquarters also.

Given the way the GOP has infiltrated and gutted every federal agency, and packed the top layers with political hacks, I wouldn't trust a federal agency to follow up on this. Your report could be bucked up to a top level, right where the political hacks are, and they could "lose" it very easily.

Include information about where and to whom you forwarded this info. Did you get the name of the SS agent/person with whom you spoke?

7. You did the exactly right thing. All the way.
You got the screenshot. You contacted the SS. You put this credible threat in the hands of them. You will force the moderators to deal with this responsibly and within the law.

You did nothing wrong. Disagreement is one thing. Threats and calls to conspiracy are another.

9. You just protected yourself. If you had not reported it , you might have been charged ...
....for not reporting a crime.

The moderators should be careful too. If they don't save stuff before they delete it, they can be charged with destroying evidence.

11. Yes - you did the right thing
The fact that the Secret Service wanted the screen shot is good evidence that they will take it seriously.

What we don't want to do is waste the Secret Service's time with non-threats. I seem to recall that the individual who coined the term "Commander Bunny Pants" for Bush got a visit from the SS. That was just a stupid waste of time.

I'll bet someone running a blog for the purpose you describe didn't believe they would get involved with a threat. This threat was more than a threat - it was also suggestion/invitation - very devious.

14. wouldn't hurt for all of us to lurk around and keep an eye
on the wackjob sites.

if they're going to post bullshit like this, then we need to be vigilant and report them. let the Secret Service and FBI determine whether or not they're serious threats.

16. The word has to get out that you can't hide in the tubes.
The MSM needs to condemn these hateful acts or there may be alot of copycat chicken shits doing the same thing, idle threats or not.

I know it's obvious to everyone here, but there are alot of idiots out there that might not realize how serious the SS is in tracking them down.

in reporting this. Every threat should be taken seriously.

28. I was a bit nervous
Having to contact authorities at that level, especially considering my liberal activist past.

I have never, however, made a public or even private threat towards any gov't official(s).

I just went to the Secret Service website and got their DC number, and asked to report an online threat made towards President-Elect Obama. The operator transferred me to Intelligence and I gave the agent the information, including my own name, location and telephone.

Hopefully, I don't get a visit from anybody, though I really don't have anything to hide.

And we have crazy people like that acting like that because of people like Sarah Palin, who chose to incite violence during speeches.

Bravo to you.

30. Allowing such talk encourages and emboldens it.
And that emboldens and encourages to criminality others.

The Palin crowds are a testament to the power of enraging with words.

This kind of talk might not lead to an actual threat to Obama, but it's not a stretch to believe these idiots might pick a random Obama supporter to attack. We have the freedom to grouse about our leaders all we want. But threatening to do harm is never acceptable, by any side of the spectrum.

34. That is exactly how I viewed it, granted, many idiots will just make ignorant comments online
without thinking but this one seems to be as you stated, a call to action, and he also stated he was not kidding around..scary times...I am so thrilled that he is so protected though what does it say for our country in this day and age when his life seems to have more threats from day one no less than any other president...very sad I don't often pray lately because I am not so sure that such does any good but I have for President Obama....I have never felt like we needed anyone more than we need him in my whole lifetime...
