He won in Alaska, but if he is forced to step down, does that mean a democrat takes his place? I am not sure how that works.

2. I hope she picks herself.
She can do that because she's a maverick. :D

6. Very tricky. The 17th Amendment says the Governor...
appoints a replacement, unless the state legislature says otherwise. Several state legislatures have said otherwise and require a special election and don't let the Governor appoint.

Alaska requires a special election, but that requirement came from a ballot initiative and not from the legislature, so the requirement could bwe up in the air.

But, Alaska allow the Governor to appoint a temporary Senator to serve until the special elction has been certified, presumably so they won't be without a Senator while they wait for the election.

7. Begich Not Defeated Yet

Kos has some good stuff up today about how the extra ballots still to be counted may favor Begich. So it's not over yet.

If it is over, then Begich should run in the special election after the Senate tosses Stevens by forcing his resignation under threat of explusion.

8. She's had a taste of the national spotlight
Of course she'll appoint herself. Not knowing the countries in North America, and not
knowing that Africa is a continent and not a nation won't stop her. That's all useless
book learning.
