2. WTF? Was it because of the independent candidate drawing votes away from
the Dem guy? That sucks.

6. Probably.
Bob Anderson wasn't even endorsed by the Independence Party. They endorsed El Tinklenberg, the DFL candidate.

The problem was that Tinklenberg couldn't have his name listed for two parties in the primary, based on Minnesota law.

So Bob Anderson was able to become the official candidate of the Independence Party.

3. We didn't turn her out, but I think maybe she'll watch her fucking mouth from now on though

Certainly what happened should give some pause to other fascists who feel the stormfront irresistably urging them to speak.

11. I hope she doesn't watch her mouth.
I hope she gives Minnesotans a reason to kick her out of Congress.

4. In just one year we can work to help unseat her
Look how close Tink came to doing it. And that was with a late surge of cash. So imagine what we can accomplish with a good candidate that has enough early cash.

Bachman can start watching her back because I'm sure Howard Dean is!

5. You've gotta feel sorry for the guy who got seven votes.
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 08:35 PM by AspieGrrl
Seriously, the whole thing sucks, though. I don't know much about Bachmann, but I'll assume she's not that great, her being a repub and all...

Edit: Holy shit, I just googled her....scary.

7. He decided to run as a write-in candidate, asking for only Republicans...
...to vote for him, after Michele Bachmann's "anti-America" remark.

But with 7 votes, he didn't affect the election.

10. She wanted the media to investigate Obama's "anti-Americanism."
She doesn't want to hear about climate change or any talk about saving the earth, because "Jesus already did that 2,000 years ago." Certifiable nutcase, yes.

17. Anti-Bachmann Write-in Votes Not Yet Allocated
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 05:36 AM by Immelman
Write-in vote totals for registered write-in candidates are counted and posted during the seven days following the election, so the final tally is not yet available. Nearly 500 write-in votes were cast against Rep. Michele Bachmann, most of which I expect will be allocated to Aubrey Immelman, her NON-neocon, anti-Iraq war primary challenger.

I did not file as a write-in candidate to get the highest possible number of votes; in fact, I appealed to Democrats not to vote for me, because I wanted my candidacy to be a Republican referendum on Michele Bachmann and the direction in which the Republican Party has taken the country.

The proximate cause of my write-in candidacy was to register my public condemnation of Rep. Michele Bachmann's outrageous call for a McCarthy-like witch hunt to investigate which members of Congress are anti-American.

My indictment of Michele Bachmann can be read here: Announcement of Write-in Candidacy

9. Thanks from inside the district to all from outside the district who helped in this contest
What a wonderful and, at the same time, tough night for us here in the 6th District. Barack Obama won, but then Michelle Bachmann won her election.

Tinklenberg did out perform the previous election. In that contest, also a 3 way race, Bachmann got more than 50% of the vote, she beat the combined total of the other two candidates by about 600 votes. In this race, she got 46%. Unfortunately, although Tinklenberg had got the endorsement of the Minnesota Independent Party, there was someone who ran as the independence candidate. The combined total of the two candidates beat Bachmann by about 30,000 votes.

This race was a long shot in this district from the start. Unfortunately, the party did not originally see the race as winnable, and so didn't put money into the district until near the end of the race. If that money had come in sooner, then combined with the amazing support that came from people around the country, it might have been enough.

Thank you all so much for helping to support our fight. I can not begin to tell you that along with the welcome cash, your donations brought new spirit, new energy, and new volunteers to the campaign. Thank you so much. I will tell you that your money was not wasted. I and many others worked so hard to earn the support you gave us. I am not one bit sorry for the hours spent walking in parades, doorknocking, and phone calling, or the money I contributed. I am proud to say, that Tinklenberg carried my county by 3400 votes. (McCain carried the county by 5500 votes, so Tinklenberg outperformed Obama in this county by nearly 9,000 votes.)

And although I'm still represented by Michele Bachmann, now I'm also represented by Barack Obama. What a wonderful world, what a wonderful day.
