WSJ: Obama has a "special obligation" to put to rest the "myth of racism"
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 06:29 PM by Fuzz
While Mr. Obama lost among white voters, as most modern Democrats do, his success is due in part to the fact that he also muted any politics of racial grievance. We have had in recent years two black Secretaries of State, black CEOs of our largest corporations, black Governors and Generals -- and now we will have a President. One promise of his victory is that perhaps we can put to rest the myth of racism as a barrier to achievement in this splendid country. Mr. Obama has a special obligation to help do so.

1. Why bother? It's the WSJ, they're not going to mute their idiocy because we complain.
They probably even realize that it's bullshit, and are just feeding their right-wing upper/upper-middle class readers' delusions.

2. President Elect Obama doesn't need a Rupert Murdoch paper to tell him his job.
Fuck off, WSJ.

3. I knew the "right people" would try to spin this right off the bat.
Obama's president now, so Revs. Jackson and Sharpton can retire! Nothing to see here, move along! Just ignore all the ugly stuff that got dredged up in this campaign, or the ongoing threats to Obama's life, or the persistent gaps in academic and career achievement, or the thousands put in prison by the bogus War on Drugs... :sarcasm:

In conclusion, white conservatives were right all along! So an Obama victory is really a victory for them! (even more :sarcasm:)

5. The WSJ can suck it.
'Myth' my ass. The barriers are still very real. Racists have an obligation to join the human race and become empathetic human beings. Obama has enough shit to deal with without having to shoulder the responsibility of obliterating 10,000 years of bigotry. Sheesh!

7. "Myth" of racism, eh?
Stupid people.

I bet it doesn't feel like a myth to people living with it.
