This "Right of center" talking point is PISSING ME OFF.

The first time I heard this "right of center" crap was last night on Faux News after it became apparent that Barack Obama would be our next President.

Dammit, I am TIRED of these miserable right-wing assholes. They're doing their best to frame this victory on their terms, and we will not allow this. And it's not just the US media... Channel 4 News in the UK is, as I type, blathering on about America being a "right of center" country, how President Obama will have to take this into account.

Lissen up, you right-wing shits, and lissen up WELL:

This. President. is. not. one. of. your. minions.

You will NOT control the message from him.

And you will NOT insult the American people by attempting to limit the significance of the election of this man as our President to any one aspect.

Barack Obama was elected President of the United States of America neither because of, nor in spite of, his race.

Barack Obama was elected President because of the message of hope and change he brings to all Americans, regardless of race or party.

The American people voted for hope and change yesterday - hope of rebuilding our nation after the right wing's disastrous 8-year reign... by CHANGE away from its policies and short-sightedness.

Yes, you right-wing assholes, you would like to forget that part of it, wouldn't you? But you will not. Because WE will not.

2. In the wider political spectrum, I would have to sadly agree that Obama is a center-rightist.
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 03:16 PM by Selatius
Were he a candidate in some European country, he would come across as a moderate conservative in the universal political spectrum.

A moderate conservative Democrat is better than an ultra-right wing Republican, I have to say.

19. Bingo!
I would hope that he's also smart and pragmatic enough to enact progressive initiatives when most badly needed, and charismatic enough to sell us on them.

8. Thats because the GOP has moved so far away they can't even see the center...
But what if you compared him to Truman or FDR (he may make them look like Marxist)? Or even to Eisenhower and Nixon? There is a lot of work to be done yet.

17. I wonder where FDR would be on the Political Compass.
I wish we could elect unabashed economic leftists like FDR and Truman like we used to.

7. Thats tough to see....
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 03:53 PM by Oregone
In a time of economic turmoil, after an era of corruption and greed, with two wars in progress, Obama was only able to garner 53% of the vote (when he is an immensely better candidate than McCain on every level)? Gay marriage is banned in two states, along with gay adoption, and a convicted felon is elected to the Senate? 95%+ of people Ive met don't even know what the concept of 'socialism' is, much less many other concepts that are considered 'leftist'.

15. Exactly!
The greed-freaks need to give it a rest (like permanently). They have done enough damage to wreck not only our economy but the world's, and don't even have enough sense to stop trying for more.

Reaganomics FAILED, bigtime, end of story. The New Deal worked. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that policies have to be roots-up from now on... ya know, like as in "liberal" or "leftist" or whatever-the-hell label the label-freaks are into. Who cares, it's what creates actual prosperity as opposed to webs of worthless pyramided paper - get over it.

They need to develop a relationship with facts and reality, long overdue.

16. That's quite a rant.
Bigger, bolder letters mean it's more "right" than mine, right?

I didn't watch FOX. Nothing new. I never watch tv news, and last night was no exception.

I've always categorized Obama is center-right, and last night's victory seems to support the idea that the nation is center-right.

I'm not a "miserable right wing asshole."

I'm the left. The REAL left, and I see the nation in the center, and to the right of center, with a tiny, marginalized, disenfranchised minority actually to the left of center.
