Who would you like to see appointed as Secretary of State?
I really like the idea of Bill Richardson.

2. Dick Lugar?
I know he's a republican, but he's also very interested in rounding up nukes. Obama has worked with him in the past. His age and the way he caved to Bush are troubling. It could be a good will gesture that will give him cover on other appointments.

3. You have a second on Bill Richardson.
He has a wonderful track record in international negotiations.

4. Richarson is the obvious favorite...
But I wouldn't mind seeing a moderate Repub who broke with Bush appointed. It'd be a good bipartisan gesture, which Obama reportedly wants somewhere in his cabinet. Plus, someone on MSNBC or CNN reported last night that one of the big things Obama wants for his cabinet are _no retreds_. So that may count against Richardson.

How are Hagel's qualifications for SoS?

5. I thought Hagel would be in line for Sec of Defense
Either way, I expect to see a few Republicans in Obama's cabinet by the time it's finalized.

8. I definitely don't want a Repub as SoD
Or Sec of Homeland Security (can Obama change that name please). It would reinforce the meme that Repubs are better at that.

13. He would make a good choice,
I think he's far enough removed from the Clinton Administration as not to be considered a retread of past administrations.

Now more than ever we need a SOS that has the gravitas and bonafides to be able to negotiate and work with countries who's interests are now in contrast with ours. We need to get back all the credibility the Bush Administration has squandered and thrown out the window.
