We deserve to celebrate.

Break out the champagne.

Obama won.

8. I still think a suit under the 'full faith and credit clause'
should hold weight in front of the SCOTUS.

Tie it to adoptions and driver's licenses and such.

What other contracts are unrecognized between the states?

10. I do too
but it would be a sweeter victory if it were predicated upon people recognizing it as basic civil rights and voting that way.

Perhaps we should start a petition drive to outlaw divorce in order to "protect the sanctity of traditional marriage."

13. Ah, but marriage is a contract
At least, I've heard it described as such many, many times.

19. that was the aspect that was missed... the slippery slope
Prop 8 is a slippery slope. Who is next to lose their rights? The ads asked the question, but didn't fill it in.

Should two people who marry, but don't plan on having children, be barred from marrying? Should divorce be made illegal? Or made illegal only if the couple has had children?

Separate slippery slope is codifying actual discrimination into the law of the land, that is, the state constitution. What discrimination is next? (On this I thought some of the ads were effective, like the one with the guy talking about what had been illegal in the past, like Armenians owning property, etc.)

I'm a straight white male, able on my own to understand that equality demands that any two consenting adults deserve equal rights to any two other consenting individuals.

I'm disappointed so far, though. I take pride in California's blueness, but this is a big black eye, if Prop 8 passes. I think it does point to complacency on the part of the straight portion of California's blues.

11. One lawsuit per couple
And a certain Mr. Takei, who grew up in an internment camp, has considerable civil rights cred.

16. My bottle from 2000 was now unemployed, homeless, and lacking proper medical attention.
It asked to be put back for a few years. :)

15. I tend to celebrate when the war is over, universal healthcare is for all, NAFTA is rescined...
etc...

:)

Now is the last time to stop the fight and let your guard down. Its a good night, but in many ways, the left needs to challenge Obama. The sooner the better.

17. We have a chance now.
For this one night, I think it's time to set down our burdens, and celebrate.

This night will go down in history.

Indulge in some fun.

18. Oh, I am definately happy for America
But at a distance enough to be cynical. Look, cynicism has been beaten into me since college, when I started watching America fall apart. When things like gay marriage bans pass, it remains....

Obama is an exceptional person. Someone who can be persuaded (if surrounded by the right people) to renegotiate a New Deal and bring drastic change. My opinion is that it probably wont happen on its own, but it definitely can possibly happen with him there (it just hasn't yet).
