8. There are pockets of ignorance and bigotry that still shames this nation
and Constitution. The evangelists came out on turned it for her.

Christian Taliban

11. Oh, she'll have plenty of friends...
They're called "Counsel for the Defense."

EVERY repuke needs to be standing in the dock on Jan 21. Every one of them, Fed, State, County, local...

Time to clean house.

So the 3rd parties ruined this one I hear.

10. Her constituents must be a bunch of beauties
Oh, I can just imagine them. The kinds of folks who'd like nothing better than to put people like us out of business.

Well, at least we helped put the fear of God - her God - in her. I would think that she'll watch how she shoots off her mouth from now on.

Cretin.

12. She won, but Mn loses,
She will be unable to bring any appropriations to her district. The voters in her district may give her a pass for her comments, but the Democrats in the house will not. It's going to be a long 2 years for Mrs. Bachmann.

13. We can knock her off in '10
The Christian Taliban is moribund, and people like Bachmann are going to be very isolated.

15. I registered with DU specifically to reply to this thread
If that makes me a "troll" (or whatever the internet terminology is), so be it.

First of all, third parties did not ruin this one. The people who voted for Michelle "Tail Gunner Joe" Bachmann ruined this one.

I understand the anger and resentment, but we finally have the Republicans on the run and we may get the Independents' help with that, as long as we don't turn on them. Strategy, strategy, strategy.

As far as this specific race is concerned, I live in the 6th and I can tell you what lost this election for our side. It was a confluence of four factors:

1. A relatively intractable populace. Bachmann lost 3%, and, barring her eating a baby or something, she won't be losing much more. The best we could hope for was a depressed turnout from her usual supporters.

2. A big last minute ad buy by her campaign.

3. Where the heck were the Dems in the months before Bachmann's 'Crossfire' meltdown? Nowhere. The state and national party wrote off the district months before, despite every Democrat in the district telling them it was poach-able. Their efforts on our behalf at the last minute, while appreciated, were too little too late.

4. It pains me to say this but, as a result of point 3, the Dems tend to nominate bad candidates in this district. Don't get me wrong, I liked Tinklenburg and I loved Patty Wetterling last time. The problem was, as candidates, they were just bad. They did not appeal to voters. Unknown to most outside the state is that MnDot, which Mr. Tinklenburg ran (quite well from what I hear) has a terrible reputation inside Minnesota. Rampant corruption, whether real or fictitious, is the overriding image.

On the plus side:
Bachmann's reputation has suffered enough that she did lose votes, and a guy who ran MnDot was actually competitive. That's a victory in itself.

Also, every time she opens her mouth, she raises money for the DFL and the DCCC.

And maybe, finally, the national party is actually paying enough attention that next time we'll get the support we need to take this district.

19. Excellent response!
PARTICULARLY on point #3. But at least MN-6 HAD a Dem. Candidate. CA-19 didn't even bother to go that far. We had to write in a candidate (my husband wrote in "satan.") Where WAS the DNC, DCCC for us AND MN-6????

Thanks for your local perspective and welcome to DU! :hi:

20. Thanks for the welcome everyone...
and I hope I've gone some way toward establishing that the 6th isn't populated entirely of slack-jawed yokels. We're whittling them down, we just need a little help and planning.

I hope things go better for you in Cali. I always get annoyed when anyone, Democrat or Republican, runs unopposed. It's un-democratic.

Right now, I'm hoping President Obama (gee that's fun to say) and the Democratic congress have a productive eighteen months so they have a little capital to spend in places like the MN-6 and CA-19 next election season. (The MN-3 wouldn't hurt either. Tough beat for Madia.)

17. We need a tarbaby to trap the others that go stealth.
If we had a righteous crew in congress, who you gonna make the outgroup? We are still humans. Defining the outgroup is crucial to the solidity of the ingroup. I hope they use her a lot, when the repubs want to whine. Especially when she argues that she and hers are mainstream america. And are told that is incorrect. That real america voted in the unamerican domestic terrorist. Her crew are the false witness, painted lady cheerleader jigglemonster, dont ask for a platform, rightwing Jesus will provide, if needed. Rule by whim, with a flexible constitution in there, where a VP can sorta command the whole congress. They will fade from memory, unless we leave a few of the fetid, flambouyant for purposes of the hour of hate. Lest WE, the dems be credited with all that is about to befall this nation.
