Message to lurking Republicans: You'll be fine.
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 10:28 PM by antiwarwarrior
If you're not one of the 5% of Americans making more than $250,000 a year, your taxes will go down.

For the small business owners, you'll be able to help your employees get health insurance. Not just that, but lowered taxes for the middle class means that people will have more money to spend at your business. Oh, and you won't have to worry about capital gains taxes, either.

For the evangelical, religious right: relax. Nobody is doing anything to your church. Obama is a Christian, just like you.

For the fiscal conservatives: some significant fraction of you probably voted for him anyway. Government will be smaller, and more effective.

For the national security crowd: Obama will not ignore obvious, repeated threats, like Bush did.

For the energy independence crowd: The Green economy is coming, and with it comes more independence, faster, than drilling ever would. And it'll help take care of that global warming thing, to boot.

And, sure, we'll need your help, too. This is our country, and that means all of us. "Red" states, "blue" states - no more. But you'll be fine.

I don't belong to the NRA, but i do believe in the second amendment as written.

Government should be afraid of the people, not the other way around.

7. How do you interpret the first clause of that amendment?
The "well-regulated militia" line - the NRA excludes that part entirely.

14. Just what it says:
The non-professional army - the militia - all abled bodied men - was all the frontier people had to protect themselves from the natives who resisted....civilization...and to hunt meat with.

That's basically my point. This stuff doesn't matter anymore. Enough of the pitting Americans against Americans - we can disagree on issues, but we all need to work together to fix this country's problems.

Just an unusual expression that's extremely common to the fire department.

53. In the fire department...
It usually means tattle tale. For example, I was late and someone piked me off. If they laugh while they're screwing you over, they are known as a laughing piker. I realize you used it in a different context, thought that might be a west coast thing. Might be interesting to look at the origins. I've heard it from fire departments all over the east coast anyway. Take care.

15. Hey!
I just got off a gaming website where they're all crying because Obama "may" become President...AND (I am not making this up) they are all going to move to Canada or Mexico if he does! I was so stunned that all I could think of for an answer was, "Can I buy you a plane ticket?" (which I posted & got flamed for). But now...jeez, second thoughts are always so much better...I wish I'd said, "They don't want you, either!" :bounce:

I hope so!

The GOP has betrayed its own interests and I am not sad to watch them go down in flames. Maybe one day a real conservative party will rise from the ashes of 2008 and realize the betrayal that Bush and his cronies sold us.

Until then, I wish you the best of luck in undoing the tyranny imposed on us for the last eight years (some to most of which you were also complicit in, sadly.)

P.S. Get us out of Iraq too, please? :)

And sadly, yes, too many Democrats have gone along with far too much.

Since there isn't, we'll just have to fix things.

Oh, and yes...to the lurkers.

YOU'RE OVER!

Get over it or not, it doesn't matter. Your party, its ideas and, yes, YOU...are finished.

Your guns, your bible-thumping, your greed...it's over.

Line up now and come along quietly. OR ELSE.

The extremists, the racists, the bible-thumping bigots - they have been properly repudiated. Right now, though, is when we all start building a coalition that works for Americans. All Americans.

They won't go along quietly, and I for one won't miss 'em when they're gone.

As for working for "all Americans," I sure as HELL hope Obama doesn't represent bigots and bible-thumpers. Their interests need to be IGNORED, not compromised with. They've had their turn and wrecked everything.

This time we can fix it. Fix it for good and forever. That's what we need, not compromises. As long as there's a single person in America that thinks it's okay to be a Repuke or think like one, our work isn't done.

NO QUARTER.

But of course, very few of them are the ones who elected Bush. The ones who created that 8 years of National Hell look a whole lot more like Joe the Plumber. I'm not sure there is much hope for those dimwits.

49. I'd like to relate a conversation I had with a McCain voter,
about a week ago. This guy is basically alright, a hard worker, a generally decent guy, but he has something like low grade racist tendencies. He would never burn a cross on a lawn or commit violence or anything like that, but he doesn't like Black people. He acts courteous when he encounters them, but avoids them as much as possible. He says he just prefers to not be in their company. There are a LOT of people like this, so I think this has relevance.

He said that he actually agreed that Obama is smart and capable, and he came down on the side of many of Obama's actual policies. But according to him, if Obama were to be elected, all the Black people will feel emboldened and just start demanding stuff, and therefore he had to vote for McCain. I tried to give him a response on his own terms. I told him that if Obama is elected it would actually be good for him. No longer will some Black people use the excuse that racism exclusively is what's holding them back, they will now have to stand or fall on their own merits. Additionally, Black youth now will no longer have as role models just local gang members or rap stars or athletes, but folks who go to school and work hard. I tried to convey to him they will not 'take over', and no one is going to force you to associate with people you don't want to; no more than he's forced to be with the elderly or something. He said he hadn't really thought of it that way. Don't judge me on the terms or concepts I used, you have to talk to people within their worldview.

50. Nope, I think you're not getting it
What seems to drive those people is not their *own* wellbeing, but the degree to which everyone else around them has to suffer. You see, they are only really satisfied when not only are their own needs being attended to, BUT when other people are worse off than them and are suffering.

I know, it's insane, but it's the only explanation for what I've observed about them. That's probably why the socialism meme is so effective on them -- they cannot STAND the idea of everyone being ok. They have to be BETTER off than others in order to feel good.

So trying to appease them with your logic won't work. But nice try! It makes sense to all the rest of us.
