I refuse to pay for cable on principle because of the crapola espoused on it, but when I see videos online of Rachel, I love her intelligence, humor, and genuine passion for politics.

However, I'd make a random guess that since she's just gotten a gig on the corporate media, she may be erring on the side of caution to not appear to be too (e-gads) "liberal".

I love Rachel Maddow most of the time, but she's a DoomSayer. It's one of the classic archetypes within the family of Democrats.

Many doomsayers look outward: "Things are just so very terrible and they are going to get worse and we must learn to never ever be optimistic, because the other side wants to keep us down and we must always remember that the Republicans are EVIL!"

Other doomsayers, like Rachel, are introspective. This is not something you tend to see on the (R) side: "Things are awful and they are all our own fault. We must never be optimistic, because nothing we do is ever good enough to warrant such optimism."

My thought on her DoomSaying spending a lot of money in states that will take him from getting 36 to 48% of the vote and still losing? Well, by going to "red states" and putting on a good front, it made the McCain ticket do the same. So in the latter days, Obama is defending one state (PA) while making a whole bunch of inroads on a number of other states. By making McCain spend money in Indiana and Arizona, he suddenly isn't able to spend as much money in MI, WI, MN or others.

But hey, she's great otherwise, but one of the species of Dems that are annoying to listen to if things are looking too good out there.
