WA governor's race: Barack O'Rossi?

It's been weird to see Gov. Christine Gregoire and Dino Rossi swap roles in the gubernatorial election. Rossi, the Republican, is running as the "change" candidate and Gregoire is the cranky, experienced one who says in some of her TV commercials that Rossi isn't the change we need. Remember John McCain's awkward "that's not change we can believe in" mantra? That's been Gregoire's recent battle cry.

In debates, Gregoire has come off as grumpy, defensive, and old — or at least stale. Rossi has worn the Obama mantle: unflappable, affable, a fresh-faced alternative to politics as usual. It's baloney, but it's effective.

A prime example of the Obama-ization of Dino Rossi: a mailer we just received with Rossi's silkscreened face and the headline "Change is good." The color scheme — red and light blue — with Rossi's tan face in a posterized dark blue and tan is exactly like the famous poster images of Obama you see across the country.

2. Rossi is NOT running as a Republican; he is trying to delude the voters

He filed as, and is officially running under the banner of, the "GOP Party." He knows that the Republicans are in deep shit and this was a desperate attempt to disassociate himself.

3. Yeah, I'm also not thrilled with how this campaign has played out.

I don't know the numbers, but it seems like Rossi was able to outspend Gregoire by a considerable margin. All I see are Rossi ads running - television, print and radio, and by comparison, Gregoire has not been able to respond with the intensity required to counter all the bullshit out of the labor-hating real estate agent's dirty campaign. Texas oil interests and Las Vegas Casino money appear to have helped Rossi push this right to the edge.

Cross your fingers. With Gregoire and Burner campaigns in question, WA state DUers may be looking at a bittersweet Obama victory.

4. Dino Rossi is a neocon masquerading as a moderate

If he manages to pull this off, the voters of Washington State will have buyer's remorse immediately.

It'll be interesting to see what happens next with the lawsuit he was just deposed in as well.

5. Dino Rossi is NOT an acceptable option

I did not survive 8 years of a Chimp in the White House, only to have his fucking clone move into the governor's mansion. Rossi can go fuck his Ann Coulter doll (no shit, he actually has one) for all I care.
