The Mother of all E-mails...
My buddy is a writer, and he sent this to me today... I thought it was pretty damn smart, and I want to share it with you:

I'm not one for starting political threads - most of you will know me as the guy who responds snarkily to other peoples political threads.

But with the last hours running out on this whirlwind, I figured now is as good a time as any to pitch in my two cents.

The U.S. is fighting two wars that have collectively dragged on longer than WWI, WWII and Korea combined.

Given that fact, if the deciding factor for the presidency is who among us is going to get the biggest goddam tax cut...then shame on us. Shame on all of us.

If our priorities are so screwed up that we call the economy "Issue #1" - even as U.S. servicemen are still getting their legs blown off...then shame on all of us.

But since this is really where we find ourselves, I'll say this about that abovementioned deciding factor:

Neither tax policy is theoretical. Both have been implemented before.

One of them was in place during the longest sustained expansion of the U.S. economy. The same one was in place when we turned record budget deficits into record budget surpluses.

The other one is John McCain's.

Last Thursday I joined in this weird new experiment called early voting. I cast my ballot for Barack Obama. I did so with no certainty that his tax policy will end the recession and restore prosperity. Nor am I certain that his Iraq and Afghanistan policies will turn those wars around.

I did so because because his approach to those problems, and nearly every other problem, is completely different than George Bush's and John McCain's.

George Bush's solution to...well, just about everything...has been disastrous. If John McCain's policies are different, then the differences are so small I can barely see them.

Those policies have had their chance, and they've damaged us. It's only common sense that we should try something else.

Happy voting, earthlings. Here's hoping that sometime after Nov. 4 we can all start being nice to each other again.

I wish I had the nerve to send it to someone important at work who has been going around making everyone very uncomfortable by raving about Sarah Palin.

3. Yeah, I had to think about that too...
"collectively" is the operative word here, I think. I believe him- he's a WW2 history buff, and has had some articles printed in military history magazines.
