I love this sooooooooo much.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The voting lines are coiled and coiled again here, looping back and forth and out of doors and upstairs and around corners, as a record number of voters have cast early votes in Ohio’s Capitol City.

And, in the simplest terms, the early signs point skyward for the Democrats. More than 200,000 people have voted early, either in person or by mail ballot, and as of last night, Democratic voters out-number Republican voters by more than two to one.

So far, 82,728 Democrats have voted to 38,848 Republicans. Similar numbers are reported from Cleveland and Cincinnati, with overwhelming numbers of Democrats voting. And The Columbus Dispatch reported another intriguing sign of a possibly large Democratic vote:

In a computer analysis of Ohioans who recently registered to vote, the newspaper found that a majority came from districts where Senator John Kerry won by more than seven percentage points in 2004 — in other words, these are Democratic-leaning precincts. (President Bush beat Mr. Kerry overall in Ohio.) About 174,000 new voters hail from districts that Mr. Bush carried by at least 20 percentage points; but 285,000 live in precincts Mr. Kerry carried by 20 percentage points.

2. One line that really hit me....
"So far, 82,728 Democrats have voted to 38,848 Republicans." Wow - a great view of Dem excitement for and commitment to Barack.

500,000 new Dem voters registered, 28,000 GOP voters off the rolls.

Mmmm...

10. That's a staggering difference. Gives me genuine hope
that we might actually put this train back on the right track.

8. It's 2004 all over again
All those Buckeye Staters waiting in long lines to vote for four more years of the same old, same old. At least, that's the story that was sold in 2004. And a lot of otherwise canny people believed it.

9. I don't understand
It never has taken me more than ten minutes to vote. I'm in suburban Pittsburgh, we only vote on election day. Why are there such long lines?

12. I think only a fraction of the voting booths and election centers are open
for early voting. Obviously, another election where the people in charge of elections can't forecast demand very well. Maybe next election they'll figure it out.
