5. It's true that all of them wanted to see this mess come to a conclusion.

However, ALL activists get tired, and are ready to hand it on to the next generation.

Given where their lives were/have been, I"m sure they had other concerns on their minds. Like family and good friends.

When I was a college boy (Late 60's - early 70's).... that was the time of "Cool Guy" movie actors. Clint Eastwood, Steve McQueen, Paul Newman..... he was always my guy..... and in his honor I'd like to say to John McCain...

brother - all gone. And my dad was a pol. sci. professor (retired), and my mother was a big Obama supporter (she passed away in May 2007, so she didn't even get to see him get the nomination). Sigh... I wish they could've all seen this, and as you say, Kurt Vonnegut, Paul Newman, Tim Russert... how about Mark Twain?? - I guarantee you he would've been a Bush-hater - they probably would've put him in Guantanamo - so it's probably just as well he lived quite a ways back. :^)
