To the Obama campaign: Run answer ads to the J. Wright ads NOW!
I agree that these new ads featuring Wright are not going to stop Obama from winning Tuesday, but they may WELL bring Republican turnout up and endanger some of the Democrat senate and house candidates.

You should have had an answer for the Wright ad running SATURDAY. It is a shock to me you have no such ads running Sunday and that I'm reading of no signs of an answer ad being in the works.

Make the answer ad NOW. Run it ASAP in EVERY state with important downticket races.

To do otherwise may result in damage to your chances of getting your policies passed.

8. Campaigns require tactical success ...
Tactics requires thinking ....

Sheep do not think, they follow .... If you choose to defer all your thinking, then that is your choice ...

One word: Swiftboat ...

I would not mind if the Obama campaign, in all it's tactical perfection, decided to kick some RW ass by responding to these Wright ads .... Not one bit ....

I would ask no one in DU for permission to think, nor care if they don't grant it ...

But you may feel free to defer your won thinking ... til the cows come home ....

It isnt about paranoia ... It is about tactics, done well ...

If your fists are not raised, your head is exposed ....

13. You did NOT just call me a sheep. I KNOW you didn't.
You spoke out of anger and stress, not logic.

You have absolutely NO proof that the state polls you choose to put all your trust in right now are narrowing because of McCain's scare tactics. None whatsoever. And you're conveniently overlooking the ones that still have him up confidently. AND the National polls, which are everything we can hope for. But the fact in the matter is, this election goes on for ONE more day and then there isn't a DAMN thing you or I anyone else can do about it.

Step down, you nervous nellie. Step down NOW.

...especially by people who clearly don't know any more about politics than I do, and probably less, from the sound of it.

I'm not proud of myself. I lashed out cause of stress, but I'm hardly alone in that regard. We're going to win on Tuesday, but we need to chill on Monday.

14. The SwiftBoat ads worked because they were 40 days before Election Day, not 40 hours like this ad.
In addition, the people weren't focused on the economy as much as the Iraq War. Thus, questioning Kerry's patriotism worked better.

Now that people are focused almost solely on the economy, the Wright ad will fail because it doesn't address economic issues at all.

21. So I guess the Al-Qaeda tape released the weekend before the 04 election
. . . did NO damage, since it had not been released 40 days prior to the election, right? Is that your logic?

40. The Al-Qaeda tape was still linked to the Iraq War and the greater War on Terrorism that the Bush
administration was waging. That's why it was effective.

If there was an Al-Qaeda tape released this weekend, it would have almost ZERO effect, because it doesn't address economic issues.

If people were concerned about the two wars as their #1 issue, then it would affect things. The economy is the #1 issue for the vast majority of the country. Any ad that doesn't address the economy and issues like healthcare, taxes, and jobs, all part of the greater economic picture, would be relatively toothless.

The Ayers attack ads didn't affect things significantly, except to the Republican base, which were never going to vote for Obama in the first place.

The Wright ads will have the biggest effect in the GOP base, which won't affect the overall scheme of things because the GOP base isn't voting for Obama anyway.

45. That was something new at the time
...and frankly, I don't think it did have much impact on the election.

The Wright thing is just more of an issue that was already beaten to death for 6 weeks. Anyone who's motivated to vote GOP by it was probably going to do so anyway; it's not like it includes some stunning new revelation to shock swing voters.

44. Not to mention that Wright is a dead horse and old news in this election cycle
Yeah, obviously the 'pubs hope to get something out of it but frankly I think bringing up an issue that was done to death earlier in the year just makes them look desperate. If I was the Obama campaign I wouldn't consider it worthy of an ad response - the GOP has nothing new to say so you might as well let them wallow in the mud and stay positive.

17. So was the issue that Al-Qaeda supported John Kerry
. . . until the last weekend before the 04 election. Then suddenly, with the help of a probably faked video, it gained new relevance. That weekend probably cost us Ohio.

4. I'm more of a War Room democrat than you guys are
I just think that every attack, especially if they're mounted on a NATIONAL scale the way this one is, MUST be answered and answered in a way that does harm to the attacker.

I'm also aware of how pre-election weekend events can influence elections.

And if indeed Obama has the money advantage we've been told he has, why haven't we seen an answer ad already saturating the airwaves?

33. I'm not.
But you are acting like the last several elections post-Clinton have gone down as total successes for Democrats and that the Republicans just lay down and died, that their last minute smear ads had no effect.

You're acting like this thing is over already. I know you'd like to rest. But the GOP would also like you to rest. What's more, they'd like you attack other Democrats with meaningless sarcasm and toilet humor.

You're doing their job for them. Be proud of yourself.

15. My ideas
It should refute the idea that Obama sat through similar sermons to the "Goddamn America" one for 20 years. Unfortunately, before he retired Wright went a little funny in the head. This is well known among members of that church. Get someone from the church to say so on screen.

An alternative is to run a new ad about McCain's abandonment of veterans' health and welfare over the years of his Senate tenure. There is data a plenty for this attack.

Winning Democratic campaigns NEVER let an attack go unanswered.

20. "new ad about McCain's abandonment of veterans' health and welfare" That might be a good idea.
But, these dog whistle ads are not meant for undecided voters, they're for the base to get out and vote for things like Prop 8.

I doubt this Reverend Wright crap will do anything to the numbers.

35. a new ad about John Mc's shortcomings may be appropriate, but a
response to the Rev. Wright ad at this point, would only bring more legitimacy and attention to it. Barack has addressed this issue as well as it could be addressed last summer. In my humble opinion, I don't think a direct response to this add is wise at this point.

46. Please don't become a campaign strategist anytime soon
We don't need you running good campaigns into the ground.

Perhaps Obama should trot out Rev. Wright in a commercial to deny that Obama was in church for any of these sermons? This is not a storyline that he should feed. Also, he has greatly protected himself with a large get out the vote effort coupled with amazingly high numbers of early voters in favor of the Democrats. The ball is in McCain's court on this issue and there's no need for Obama to toss fuel on the fire.

Do you even read your own posts? They have "super drama queen" written all over them. The Obama campaign is a steady campaign, not a knee jerk campaign. Knee jerk campaigns look like a McCain campaign, and it causes general unrest and uneasiness for voters watching the campaign. That's when you get decisions like suspending your campaign to save the American economy.

"To do otherwise may result in dmage to your chances of getting your policies passed."
