Mike Malloy just read my letter regarding Hagel on his program!
He started his program with some sound of Hagel's criticisms of the "surge" plans. Good comments, and welcome, regardless of motive. "Politics makes strange bedfellows" as the saying goes. But I thought it would help his listeners realize better who they were in bed with when Hagel showed up. (And some DUers also, hence this post.)

Following is the text of that letter:

Subject:Hagel

100% Right-to-Lifer, 0% Planned Parenthood.
100% Christian Coalition
NAACP 5%
Human Rights Campaign 0%
American Land Rights Association 100%
American Wilderness Coalition 0%
Defenders of Wildlife 0%
And so on. Pure reich winger.

See vote-smart.org for the details: http://www.vote-smart.org/voting_category.php?can_id=BC031069

So he has consistently allied himself with all the major players on the right, but one very important group of players has recently discovered that they made a very big mistake in backing the PNACer's plan for world domination via military conquest.

Big Money bought (literally) the delusions of the neocon/Strauss/AIPAC group and put them into power with the expectation that the world's largest military could bring them truly unchallenged strategic power in the world by gaining control over the Middle East as a first step.

Well, reality showed itself, and the Baker group was formed to find a way to salvage the failed conquest. But Chimpy and his master Darth have refused to cooperate.

Once a backer of the invasion, now Hagel is putting himself forward as Corporate Imperialism's savior by siding with the the Baker-Hamilton Iraq Study Group and denouncing the "full steam ahead into the abyss" plans of the frat boys. This gives him the same set of backers that put those monsters into power in 2001. Be afraid.

1. And lest we forget
The former CEO of ES&S, who just happened to score an upset victory in the Senate race of a state that exclusively used ES&S voting machines :tinfoilhat:

4. A trial run for the owner class.
Worked well for Hagel, an overwhelming victory despite poor poll numbers. They've since tried to be a bit more subtle in the tweaking of the numbers.

2. But so many Duers looove Hagel! He wants to end the war, and nothing else counts!
:sarcasm: It just makes me sick when some say they'd vote for Hagel rather than Hillary or whichever Denm they don't like!

3. Exactly. They are not too far away from those who chose the Taliban
to bring "stability" in Afghanistan or endorsed any number of several other tyrannies because they were so concerned about some particular evil that they did not notice that the promised "cure" would be a greater evil. Hagel is an ally of those who brought that us that war, who now want to change tactics, and he wants to be their main man in the next venture.

This short-sighted narrowness of view is not surprising when it comes to a country like Afghanistan, with bottom of the scale income, literacy, and access to media, but it suggests that the outlook of the poor noble people of Afghanistan is not that different from the relatively privileged and educated (on a world scale) members of DU who are so easily fooled by a con like Hagel.
