WTF is it with Alaskans
Palin is accused of misusing her office and she claims she was vindicated.

Stevens is convicted of accepting bribes, and he claims he's been vindicated.

Is it Alaskans? Republicans? Does no one have any shame?

3. Thank you, Uppity, again
for sticking up for us. I agree -- it's REPUBLICAN Alaskans, certainly not all of us. Some of the most decent and truthworthy people I've known in my life have been Alaskans. That's a big part of the reason why I love it here.

5. It's like Texans.. Guilt by association..
Some people like to stereotype just a bit. I'd recommend the OP'er check out Mudflats blog to see that not all Alaskans are like Palin and Stevens.

8. I second that.
Mudflats is about the best blog out there from ANY state, IMO. If nothing else, Palin's ascendancy has brought AKMuckraker/Mudflats the recognition she so richly deserved.

4. It's not Alaska. It's rampant Republican corruption.
They've been in power a long time. This is their baby. Don't blame Alaska.

10. Lots of oil field people from Oklahoma/texas/Louisiana
poured into Alaska back when the pipeline was being built..and many of them stayed..land was cheap back then, and they were paid a shitload of money (for that time)..

The climate was hard for them to adjust to, but the outdoors activities..hunting fishing boating etc appealed to them..and the isolation & lack of law enforcement in remote areas..

They just transplanted their own culture & philosophies in Alaska..

12. Or the culture and philosophies of Alaska were the same as theirs..
Just saying.. I know a lot of guys from Oklahoma that went up to work on the pipeline (the Pipeliners Union is headquartered in Tulsa). My brother was one of them. From what I heard Alaska appealed to them mostly because the people up there held many of the same values as they did. Plus being that remote allowed them to enjoy their hunting, fishing, outdoor lifestyle without the scrutiny that comes down here in the lower 48.

15. As a former Alaskan, let me add to what others on this thread have said...
It's NOT Alaskans, it's REPUBLICANS!

When I lived in Alaska I met some of the most amazing and wonderful and generous people ever. Assholes are assholes, and they can be found anywhere.
