MSNBC has decided that Plame is a non story - Move on
My head is about to explode. The talking head (who ever she is), Buchanon, and Peter Finn are saying that it was a one day hearing and that people just don't care about it. Buchanon said "she calls herself covert" ... blah blah blah. Plame doesn't affect people's lives but the fired attorneys, well, that has caught our attention because it's "fresh" but there's little more than smoke there, no fire.

The female talking head kept saying that the dems were doing themselves harm by looking into all the things they are investigating and that people just want to move on, have Bush leave, and get on with their lives.

How can these people even pretend to be journalists when they don't report anything anymore? How come they don't spend any time explaining to the public just HOW the outing of an agent who was charged with investigating WMD (remember them ... the things we DIDN'T find in Iraq) could affect their daily lives even more than the firing of the attorneys (although both are just pieces in the puzzle of how sick our government really is).

Now, back to the things that really count - Anna Nicole's baby daddy story.

AAARRRGGGHHHHH!!!

/rant off (I think)

4. Heck, they can spin all they want . . .
. . . Ms. Sydnie. Waxman is just getting started. When he's through, fake journalists will have some ratings troubles, methinks.

I never thought it would happen, but it surely has started.

The rats are cornered. Let's just hope and pray that Big Dick Cheney doesn't start another war . . . cuz we know he'd like to.

14. It's particularly obvious this is a Bush Crime Family cover-up on
the part of the corporate news since Ms. Plame IS a beautiful blond, and they aren't covering the story. Normally they would be on any story involving a beautiful blond like a duck on a June-bug.

19. Of course
Nothing of real value gets covered anymore. It's basically entertainment news and what Minitrue deems acceptable.

9. I'm feeling really similarly.
Yesterday, the truths we had waited to hear for 4 years were clarified under oath. It was such an enormous relief and felt like a major sea change.

Though I don't patronize the cable companies, just listening to NPR their segment on the hearing yesterday sounded as though it was a segment from one of those gossip shows. The reporter talked more about what Valerie and Congresswoman Watson and the Code Pink character were wearing than the content of the testimony and its obvious treasonous implications.

It's so damn frustrating.

Still these issues will not go away regardless of their trivialization of them.

What did Waxman say . . .? Something like "This resulted in a war that didn't have to happen." Trying to stay focused on that.

10. Whaddya expect?
The extremist right sits back and gloats when hearings drag on
when it's about Monica Lewinsky, but when it's about punishing
felony behavior in the White House, endangering National Security,
abuse of power, pejury by Republicans, THEN the phone calls, the
favors, the promises of rewards and access fly fast and furious,
and those "journalists (my father was a real one--I know the difference)"
who are on the payroll (officially or otherwise) of the White
House and their allies suddenly scream from the highest mountain top
that the prosecution of one Bush administration felony after another
is trivial, old news, uninteresting, and irrelevant--indeed pale by
comparison to the post mortem adventures of Anna Nicole Smith.

To paraphrase, to the White House and those of the media they own (one
way or another), they may be a bunch of crooked felonious lying assholes,
but they are OUR crooked felonious lying assholes.

To these unreasonable facsimilies of the fourth estate, if Karl Rove
doesn't want it to be news, then it isn't news.

11. waituntil 5 years from now, and we are still in Iraq
and much more deaths have occurred. The MSM who were co-conspiritors in getting us to invade a country based on a lie. As more people's children and spouses are brought back in body bags from Iraq, there will eventually be blow back, but not until enough people have been directly touched by this insanity.

Right now the people are not even aware of the civil liberties they have given up, they are too busy watching american idol

The increase in troops to about 1600000 no one could care less

We attacked a country based on a lie, and most of the people are not affected by are actions. In the course of time, as both the financial and human toll accumulate, that will change

but I suspect it is still a long ways off

Edited on Sat Mar-17-07 09:50 AM by Demeter
"It's just interesting to those inside the Beltway--nobody real cares!" Boy, that ought to be blown out of the water by Monday.

When they haven't anything else to fight with, the GOP grab the cow pies and start throwing them around. Thing is, they're running out of cow pies!

Ergo, people care.

20. I just fired off this email to Abrams - angrily I admit!
Dear Mr. Abrams,

I happened to catch a few minutes of your stations morning coverage today, March 17, 2007, at around 10:15 AM. I saw your anchor carrying out an interview with Pat Buchanon and Peter Finn, discussing the latest Washington "scandals". I was amazed, and frankly angered, with the entire segment. Your anchor spent the majority of her face time stating that the Democrats were investigating themselves into a political hole, that no one cares about the Plame case because it's four year old news and that people just wanted all this to end so they could get back to their lives. Buchanon was stating that Plame and this hearing was not important because it doesn't affect anyones daily lives and that the attorney firings had some smoke but no fire. Finn just appeared to be glad to be included in any discussion that got his face on the air.

I must tell you, that this is NOT news coverage. It is tabloid tv. News coverage attempts to fill in the gaps, educate us about just how these things could and do affect us by giving us a lesson of how things are connected. There is so much talk about terrorists and fear seems to be a great motivator in our society right now, right or wrong, that's how it is. How about having a talking head that understands how Plame was working to uncover the very things that we have been taught to fear most, WMD, and how her being outted DOES affect our daily life more than we are being led to believe from your stations coverage. How about having someone there explain just how the pieces of this puzzle fits together with the whole "keeping us safer" myth that has been the cornerstone of most of the "news" coverage for over five years! Yes, many people have busy lives and yes, many people have dropped the ball as far as applying what they learned in Civics classes in school but how can we expect to have informed, responsible citizens when they are not even given the information needed to actually connect the dots when we have perfect examples playing themselves out right in front of us? Instead of dismissing it and deciding for us what is important, how about doing what was intended news to do, before the cost and profit centers became the silent god of every news department?

When you are spending more time covering who is someone's "baby daddy" than you are on the workings of our government, you are part of the problem and not part of the solution. Shame on you! Why you think trotting Buchanon out ad naseum as your expert is contributing to the discourse of real and dangerous issues (dangerous to our nation and the fabric it was constructed with) as acceptable just boggles my mind. Why not have someone speak to us that has information rather than opinion, who do little more than decide for us what is worthy of our attention and what is not?

You have a responsibility, Mr. Abrams, to attend to the betterment of our society. How sad that the Countdown Show is your only attempt to let the sun shine and the information flow and yet, you don't apply that winning formula to your hourly news coverage. You want viewers to tune in all day? Cover different things in depth, a different topic every hour would be preferable to what we have now, that matter to the future of our country. Give the people the information and stay out of the opinion business, that should be the job of your viewers not your anchors.

Information is power. Right now, I only feel empowered to turn the channel. At least when I am watching an entertainment show, like a sit com, I know it is intended to entertain me, not educate me.

Rise to the occasion and empower us all to be better citizens. There will still be enough time left over for the discussion of the baby bump du jour, I'm sure.

21. I was equally frustrated by similar comments on the Tucker show yesterday.
Tucker was actually trying to make the story seem like a serious matter but one of his Republican guests laughed through the whole thing, acting as though it was all a joke, and repeatedly said stuff like, people don't care, this will last for a single news cycle and then it will be over. It was hard to see the television - it was foggy from all the steam coming out of my ears. I forced myself to disengage myself from the cable news machine at that point and didn't tune back in until KO was on.

On the bright side, Waxman seems in no way, shape, or form to be treating this as anything less than a deadly serious matter, and I gather will continue to pursue it until all those responsible are brought to light. I can't wait to see the smug smiles drop from the faces of conservative pundits one by one as more dirt comes out, and as the WH gets worked up into an increasingly frenzied panic.

24. Next, the big mystery question
Why, oh why, are people abandoning our network news coverage in droves? Any ideas on this, Plastic Head?

I couldn't say for sure, Random Bimbo, but I think it's because we're not giving enough coverage to Brittney Spears latest hairdo. So, here we are with the latest on Brittney and Anna.
