The guy hooked up something that would shock the people who had been stealing his signs. You can get sued for doing things like that - I don't think it's so funny.

21. Those Dems sent THEIR kid. That's what I get.
I cannot imagine a nine year old acquiring an Obama sign and taking it upon himself to do something like that.

2. I say tough shit, would say that for either side
It was probably a simple farm charge, incredibly unlikely to do more than a quick buzz.

The kid was being a vandal.

4. If it's the one I heard about, it was an underground dog fence.
Those are low voltage aren't they?

9. What's the guy supposed to do? Put another sign up saying
"You must be at least this tall to be electrocuted by that sign"

11. I see the sign was also marked as being electrified.
It sounds to me like the parents put the kid up to it too. I don't care which side it's on, destroying or stealing other people's property is wrong.

6. There are a few videos of it out on youtube, and, yes, it is funny.

The kid wasn't hurt, but he just pulled his hand off the sign quickly and walked away.

I don't care who's sign he as stealing, he deserved his little taste of justice.

10. I taught my children not to go on other people's property or touch their things.
I remember reminding my children not to touch other people's cars, not to go in their yards without permission, etc. It's too bad that a little kid got shocked, but I kind of sympathize with the sign owner for feeling aggravated about his signs being stolen over and over again. Even though he's a Republican and his sign is promoting McCain-Palin, whom I totally oppose on every single issue, he has a right to up up a sign in his yard and not have it stolen.

I have no idea if this little kid was trying to mess with the McCain sign, but the video shows him holding an Obama sign, so it looks suspicious to me.

I think that adults who steal signs are thieves and jerks, and anyone who would encourage their child to steal a sign is a thief, jerk, and child abuser. Come on people. We're better than this.

Don't steal signs.

14. Yep...same here.
If I was that six-year old kid and told my parents what had happened, I'd probably be in trouble and get a good spanking for trespassing on someone else's property and touching their belongings without permission.

12. People on this message board have dicussed doing that for their Obama signs, and many of the posters
were generally supportive. I wonder if they feel the same way now?

13. It was a tiny little zap.
Ever touch an electric cattle fence? It's just a startling little jolt -- totally harmless. We used to dare each other to pee on them when we were kids in the country. It's like putting a 9volt Battery on your tongue, or maybe a bit more. No big thing.

Maybe the little bugger will think twice about swiping signs.

17. "pet-fence setup"
The deputy who investigated Tuesday said the pet-fence setup probably was legal, Turschak said, but perhaps more trouble than it was worth. Turschak pulled the plug on the signs.

19. Huh?
I don't care if the kid is 6, 9, or 12. It is illegal to trespass and steal from others property. His parents probably put him up to the theft. My theory is if it kills em them we have one less drag on the species. Survival of the fittest. Good grief, if he is like this at that age who in the hell wants him to grow up?

No risk with the shock but definitely teaches a little lesson. Pretty innovative too! I give props to the guy.

24. Well the guy was an asshole in the interview BUT
I have to side with him on this. It's his property, the dog fence was too low power to cause injury and it was clearly marked with yellow signs. I'm sorry but the kid went on private property with the intent to steal. I also hope that he learns a lesson.

28. I wonder if the kid learned his lesson.
I'm siding with the property owner on this one. And if the parents put the kid up to it, they deserve a little shock therapy themselves.
