Food Bank Friday! Halloween 2008 Edition!
Please remember your local food bank when you go grocery shopping this weekend!

Print out the flier below and make copies for your friends, family or co-workers to take with you when you go grocery shopping.

(Or surreptitiously leave copies at the grocery store!)

You don't have to pick up everything on the list, just remember to pick up something.

Other ways you can help

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) http://www.chiron-communications.com/farms.html

Second Harvest http://www.feedingamerica.org/?show_nce=1

Find and donate "free after rebate" items offered by many stores http://www.salescircular.com/

Thanksgiving Tip (from DUer central scrutinizer: many grocery stores offer cheap frozen turkeys - as low as $.19 per pound - if you buy over a certain amount, often $75 or $100. I take advantage of this to get a big turkey for a really low price and donate it to the food bank.

This winter will be pretty bad in some areas, so even if you can't make it to the food bank, send money or help out any way you can.

And, last, but not least, please support candidates and policies that guarantee livable wages.

1. Consider donating leftover candy
Adults like treats too sometimes.

3. DIL's pre-school class did this
Rather than take home the candy from their Halloween Party, they had a little parade over to the food bank and donated their candy and treats. Cute idea!

5. Yes,
The food bank is on the far side of the church property, where the preschool also is. Neither does any preaching at all. They've got the room so they offer the service. So the kids walked over there, along the sidewalk and down the street a little bit. It was cute.

10. K&R THANK YOU, Colbertwatcher.
Again, our family uses two different food banks. Most of the people who use them are hard working and/or disabled people.
